This Austin-Healey 100 is a recently restored left-hand drive BN1 roadster finished in Coronet Cream over red leather. The car reportedly passed through several owners before being disassembled in 1962, and was acquired as a project by the seller in 2014. A body-off restoration was undertaken beginning in 2016, and the car was awarded a First in Class at the 33rd Annual South Central British Car Gathering in April 2018. Power is from a matching-numbers 2.6L inline-four mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive. This BN1 has been driven approximately 500 miles since the rebuild and is now for sale with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate and a clean North Carolina title.
The frame and body restoration was carried out at the seller's shop and included a repaint in original Coronet Cream. New 48-spoke chrome knock-off wheels were installed in place of the original painted wheels, which can be substituted if preferred by the new owner. The seller describes bright chrome throughout, though the front grille surround could reportedly benefit from replating.
The body parts and chassis were sandblasted on a rotisserie prior to the application of epoxy primer and single-stage catalyzed urethane paint.
The red convertible top is a replacement and houses a clear plastic rear window. The sale also includes the original top as well as a set of removable side windows.
The interior was recovered in red leather upholstery with matching carpets as original according to the BMIHT certificate. The 5-digit odometer indicates just over 28k miles, though true mileage is unknown. The seller has added approximately 500 miles since the restoration was completed.
Power comes from a numbers-matching 2.6L inline-four, which is mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive operable in the top two gears. A local shop was commissioned to rebuild the engine, which received a .040″ overbore as well as new pistons, rings, and bearings for the crankshaft, connecting rods, and camshaft. Cylinder head work included new valves, springs, and guides, and induction is from twin SU carburetors rebuilt by the seller and an SU specialist with kits purchased from Moss Motors. A new water pump was sourced and an electric radiator fan with a 185°F switch was added.
Engine stamping 1B205038 is confirmed as original by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate as well as period bills of sale provided in the gallery below. The transmission and overdrive were rebuilt with parts from Moss Motors during the recent work according to the seller.
The BMIHT certificate documents the original colors and production date of December 11, 1953. The seller reports that the car was titled as a 1955 model when first sold. A plaque honoring First in Class at the 33rd Annual South Central British Car Gathering in April 2018
