This Austin-Healey 100 BN1 is a left-hand drive roadster that was built in February 1954 for the North American market. The car was purchased in 2005 by the seller’s father, who then reportedly commissioned Jean Caron and Bob Wilkinson of Winnipeg, Manitoba to perform a five-year restoration in factory Spruce Green with a green soft top and leather interior. Power comes from a numbers-matching 2.7L inline-four mated to a three-speed manual gearbox with a reversed shift pattern and overdrive. This BN1 roadster is offered by the seller on behalf of his father with a jack, a spare wire wheel, a tonneau cover, refurbishment photos, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and clean Quebec registration listing it as a 1953 model in his father’s name.

The car was repainted in factory single-tone Spruce Green as part of a restoration that took place from 2005 to 2010. Features include a fold-back windscreen, front and rear bumper overriders, and chrome fender welting. The green soft top has been replaced, and a matching tonneau cover is included in the sale. The seller notes a scratch on the aluminum trunk lid, which is described as sensitive to being shut too firmly.

Painted 48-spoke 15″ wire wheels are retained with two-eared knock-off spinners and wear vintage-style Metric Radial tires. Braking is from 11″ Girling drums at all four corners. Independent front suspension is comprised of double wishbones and coil springs, while a solid axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs is featured out back.

The interior has been reupholstered in green leather and is equipped with a Smiths heater. The seller notes that the shifter has a reversed pattern with first gear on the lower right, while a toggle switch on the dashboard engages the Laycock de Normanville overdrive.

A wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges, a 120-mph speedometer, and a tachometer with a 4,750-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows less than 500 miles driven since the restoration was completed in 2010. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2,660cc inline-four was factory-rated at 90 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque when new and is shown running in the video above. The engine was reportedly serviced during the restoration and is equipped with dual SU side-draft carburetors.

The engine block tag is stamped 1B205958 and matches the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.

The trunk is lined with a green mat, provides access to the fuel filler, and retains a spare wire wheel and jack.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed A90 manual gearbox featuring overdrive on second and third gears.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists factory specifications and a production date of February 16, 1954.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
