Car was at auction in '07
www.brightwells.com/classiccars/Catalogue/tabid/322/Default.aspx
Auction description:
Body colour: Red/White
Date Manufactured: 1955
Registration Number: OFS 429
Chassis Number: BN2L229873
Engine Number: 1B/229873-M
Engine: cc: 2660
History:
This car has been totally restored by Healey specialists JME at a cost of £22,750, receipts for which are included in the history file. In addition to this work, it has also been treated to a full engine and gearbox rebuild which was carried out by Hardy Engineering, again Healey specialists for mechanical and engineering work. The car has covered only 3,000 miles since the work was completed.
Finished in Reno Red over Old English White with red leather interior piped in white, it comes with full black canvas weather equipment including hood, side screens and tonneau and, of course, it has the sports fold down windscreen.
The engine has been built to M spec with the addition of a Denis Welch Healey S spec alloy cylinder head (which, we are told by the vendor, cost an absolute fortune!). It also has a Denis Welch alternator set up and a gear reduction high torque starter motor. The gearbox is the correct 4-speed BN2 unit with overdrive on third and top, most other 100/4s having only the three speed box.
The car is also fitted with a lightweight aluminium louvered bonnet with leather strap and lightweight aluminium front and rear wings. It further benefits from a full stainless steel exhaust system along with uprated 72 spoke wire wheels with nearly new tyres.
This is a very high spec 100M with many 100S spec options which is in superb condition and is tremendously exciting to drive. With an MOT and tax until March 2008, it is ready to be jumped straight into and driven away today.
Guide price 27,500

Car is very pretty. I have an Austin Healey with these numbers on a small plate on right side of engine at top of block. The piece of metal is riveted at each end with 1B229982M stamped on it. Can you by chance email me with what this means. Thank you. Larry

I emailed you earlier about my healey. What does the M stand for at the end of the engine number or do all 1956 BN2's have this letter at end of engine number. I forgot to give you my email address. It is: sureisbold_01@yahoo.com
Hope to hear from you.
Lary
