I have owned the car since 1980. I bought it with the intention of driving it for a while and then restoriing it. However I began the construction of a 30 foot wooden sailboat
And the restoration was never started. I do drive it occasionally. I also owned a 1955 BN1 in 1957-1959. Fun cars!

This 1956 Austin-Healey 100M BN2 roadster is one of the 640 100M examples produced over a 10-month span and was reportedly acquired by the seller’s father in 1979. The car is powered by a replacement 2,660cc inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and it is finished in black over black upholstery. Equipment includes a black soft top, 15″ knockoff wire wheels, a louvered hood, a folding windshield, a heater, and a Motorola transistor radio. This 100M is offered by the seller on behalf of their father with a black tonneau cover, removable side screens and sliding side windows, a Thor knockoff hammer, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean California title.

According to the BMIHT certificate, the car was finished from the factory in two-tone Healey Blue and Ivory White, and it was repainted black during prior ownership. Features include a black soft top with a matching tonneau cover, chrome bumpers with overriders, a louvered hood, a folding windshield, bright trim, and a single exhaust outlet. The seller notes the presence of body filler on the passenger-side fender and difficulty adjusting the folding windshield. Paint bubbling is visible on and around the hood, and additional flaws include chipping paint, scratches, and indentations. These areas are depicted in the photo gallery below, along with additional images showing the soft top in its raised and lowered position. The turn signals are inoperable.

Silver-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knockoff spinners and are mounted with Radial 78 BR78 tires. A yellow-finished full-size spare is mounted inside the trunk, and braking is handled by four-wheel drums.

The cabin features low-back bucket seats trimmed in black upholstery with matching door panels and carpets. Amenities include a heater, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, black Union Jack-branded rubber floor mats, and a Motorola transistor-powered radio. Interior wear is noted and includes tears in the seat upholstery and carpets

A banjo-style steering wheel exhibits cracking and fronts a black-finished dash housing a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates 87k miles, approximately 20k of which have been added by the current owner. True mileage is unknown.

A replacement 2,660cc inline-four has been installed and features twin SU carburetors. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, and the seller states that the overdrive unit is non-functional.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate identifies the car as a factory 100M and lists original colors and powertrain numbers.

The car is titled using the engine number shown above, and the California title is listed as a duplicate.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
