From the original austinhealey.com web site. Owner Scott T. Sanford:

"This car was purchased in 1958 by my father, T. Mitchell Sanford on the advice of none other than Phil Hill !! Dad raced it at LimeRock and and BridgeHampton, and while he was in the service in Texas, raced under the name Guy Savage. He drove it until he got married in 1967 when it was taken off the road. It sat there until 1974, the year I was born, when he took it for a drive on a bet.

After the drive it sat in one garage or another until the Summer of '94 when I got the car. Dad was loosing his battle with Cancer, so I decided to try to get the car running to take him for a final drive.

I managed to get the exhaust system fixed (all new stainless) and a new battery box built. I worked the electrical system to a point where the plugs could fire reliably and the lights would work. and got the bugger started about a month before he died. I couldn't do the brakes, so I took it to an eccentric guy the next town over who sat on his hands until Dad had passed away, not having had his last ride. I brought the car home, the master cylinder still not repaired, and the car died on the way. As soon as I get my credit cards paid off, I will be back to my restoration process, so if anyone has hints, tips, tricks, caveats, or can give me an idea of how much I should expect to spend, I'd appreciate it !!

I am beginning a partial restoration to get the engine, brakes and electrical systems up to snuff !! After that I will hopefully finish the job when money permits !!! I am very appreciative of any hints, tips, solutions, caveats, and links, phone numbers to memorabelia catalogs, suppliers, and restoration specialists...

Sounds like you have a great project on your hands. Let me know if I can be of any assistance as I am on the downhill slide of finishing my 56 Reno Red BN2. It was as they say, a basket case when I got it in 2008, missing lots of little parts. Best advice I can give at this time is take lots of pictures as you go along, that way you can remember what went where. Also, join the Austin Healey Club USA as well as the Austin Healey Club of America, Inc. If interested, I can get you a list of books you need as well as suppliers for AH both good and expensive and OK and not as expensive. Good Luck, John

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
