This 1957 Austin-Healey 100-6 BN4 is a left-hand drive four-seater that was built on March 5, 1957 and exported from Great Britain to Royal Motors of Caracas, Venezuela. The car is said to have been acquired by the seller’s late father in 1986 while living in Venezuela, then was shipped to Arizona upon his retirement and relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia after being inherited by the seller in 1998. Refurbishment work from the 1980s to the mid-2000s included a color change to green and white, reupholstery of the interior in off-white with green piping, installation of a replacement 2.9-liter inline-six sourced from a Mark I Austin-Healey 3000, and more. Fluid changes and brake work were carried out in summer 2019. This 100-6 is offered with refurbishment records and photos, a black soft top and tonneau cover, promotional literature, repair manuals, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and British Columbia registration in the seller’s name.

The body was originally finished in Colorado Red, and a color change to green and white was completed in 1995 by Lancaster Restorations of Vancouver, British Columbia. The seller notes imperfections in the chrome grille surround and rear bumper along with a scratch behind the left door, paint chips on the left sill, and cracking on the lower rear valance. A black soft top and tonneau cover are included in the sale, though the Upper India AA grille badge is not.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels feature 72 stainless steel spokes and are wrapped in 185/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The braking system was overhauled in 1999, while the left front drum was resurfaced in 2009 and the shoes were replaced in 2010.

The 2+2 cockpit has been reupholstered in off-white leather with green piping, while the replacement carpeting is trimmed in green. Lap belts are equipped for the front occupants, and the rear seat backrest folds down to create a parcel shelf. Scratches are noted on the rear cockpit surround, and the seller also notes heat insulation has been fitted to the floor pans and transmission tunnel under the carpeting.

Instrumentation framed by a three-spoke banjo steering wheel consists of a 200-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows just over 15k kilometers (~9k miles), of which approximately 8k kilometers have been added by the seller and his father. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 2.9-liter inline-six sourced from a Mark I Austin-Healey 3000 is said to have been installed in the early 1990s and was overhauled in 1999 by Special Services of Surrey, British Columbia with resurfacing of the cylinder head and valve seats as well as replacement of the exhaust valves, piston rings, and accessories. Fluids were changed in the past nine months along with cleaning of the fuel lines and a carburetor service. A replacement fuel tank was modified to fit and the fuel pump was replaced in April 2020 by Silk Cat Automotive of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The flywheel was resurfaced and a replacement clutch fitted by English Car Services in 2007 along with installation of new transmission mounts. The seller states Waxoyl was applied to the frame and body in 1999, and corrosion is noted on the front right of the frame rail and suspension components.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate displays the original colors, optional equipment, and drivetrain numbers. Refurbishment photos and records are also included in the sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
