Attractive and eminently usable example of this classic British sportscar; just two owners in the last 35 years; vast file of invoices back to the early 1990s; driven 60 miles to the sale

This smart Austin Healey 100/6 (BN4) 4-Seater was driven in to us from South Wales by a gentleman who has enjoyed and cherished this car for the last five years. The previous owner had the Healey for over 30 years and carried out much work to the car, including what looks like body, engine, brakes and transmission restoration.

It comes with a vast file of invoices back to the early 1990s to show regular upkeep and the current owner has confirmed he rebuilt the engine in 2021 with new pistons, bearings etc, receipts of the machining work that was carried out supplied with the vehicle. We are told that the car runs and drives well, it has certainly been starting promptly and running nicely as we have moved it around on site, with healthy 40psi oil pressure.

The front and rear bumpers have been removed to enhance the sports car look given by the white roundels on both sides which really makes this car stand out from the rest. Both chrome bumpers and brackets are included in the sale if you prefer the more classic and original look. A side-exit exhaust adds to the sporting appeal and there is a hood tucked away under a smart cover behind the seats to keep you dry if you get caught out in the rain.

The Healey is painted in an attractive deep red with black leather seats and red piping to subtly unite the exterior colour through to the interior. Overall, the car is in very respectable condition with just a few minor blemishes here and there, as to be expected on a car of this age, and a good machine polish would no doubt get it gleaming nicely.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
