Auction description:

Lot 1

2011 | Scottsdale Auctions 2011

1959 Austin-Healey 100-Six BN6

Chassis No. BN6L3511

Engine No. 26D/RU/H70399

$75,000 - $90,000

Without Reserve

* Desirable Two-Seat BN6 Model

* Limited Ownership

* Well-Documented Example

* Accompanied by British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate

This sleek 100-Six is believed to be one of just 329 of the two-seater BN6 examples that were produced in 1959. A resident of Santa Barbara, the car’s original owner took great pride in his Austin-Healey and, through the years, acquired two wonderful mementos that speak to the originality of the car. These include a photograph of the owner together with marque founder Donald Healey alongside the car, and the original owner’s manual which has been inscribed with a personal note from Mr. Healey to the owner. Both documents are included in this sale.

In 1989, the first owner conducted a cosmetic restoration of the car that included a paint re-spray, new correct Connolly leather upholstery, fresh carpeting and a new convertible top and tonneau. After he passed away in 1994, the Austin-Healey transferred to his son, a resident of Montana, who dutifully stored the car in a heated garage before selling it to the current owner in 2004. Since acquiring the car, the consignor has addressed a number of needs that included re-chroming the bumpers, installing a stainless steel exhaust system and mounting chrome Dunlop wheels with Dunlop SP20 tires. He has driven this dashing BN6 on tours in Colorado and Arizona, and reports the car to be a willing and reliable driver. Through the careful conservancy of all three owners, this BN6 remains remarkably intact with its mechanicals almost entirely original other than the due replacement of soft parts such as belts and hoses.

This enviable 100-Six is one of the later variants equipped with the more powerful six-port engine head. It comes with a number of authentic accessories, including its original side curtains and their accompanying stowage bag, rare original AMCO white rubber floor mats and an uncommon original factory hardtop that the consignor has restored to its correct appearance. Additionally, this Austin-Healey includes significant documentation, such as copious service records dating back to 1959, a British Motor Industry Hertiage Trust certificate, an original workshop manual and the aforementioned documents autographed by Donald Healey. Beautifully finished in its original color scheme of Healey Blue over Ivory White, this 100-Six is a well- presented, limited-ownership example whose important documentation and preserved state qualify it among the most desirable of early six-cylinder Healeys.

Hello,
My name is Bruce Block. My siblings and I are having a big 50th Anniversary for our folks in December. We are looking for an Austin Healy in this year range to have for show at this event because that is what our Dad drove back when he met our Mom in Layfayette, Indiana. I know this is just a shot in the dark because I am not sure where you are located, or if you would be interested or if this is even possible? But, my motto that has worked for us so far in this event planning is... "it doesn't hurt to ask!" ha ha.
We are located outside of Beaumont Texas.
I appreciate your time reading this note and I hope it is a possibility we can talk about. Feel free to email me or call me. My cell phone number is 409 656 9295. My email is brucewblock@aol.com.

Thanks again, Bruce

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
