Car was at auction in '07
www.motorbase.com/auctionlot/by-id/1649086137/

Auction info:
Goodwood Festival of Speed, Bonhams (22nd June 2007)
1962 Austin-Healey MkIIA Roadster
Its accompanying BMIHT Certificate reveals that this Austin-Healey MkIIA was built in left-hand drive configuration and originally finished in Ivory White with red interior and black hood. Despatched in October 1962 to dealer A Brggemann in Dsseldorf, Germany, this car was particularly lavishly equipped, boasting wire wheels, adjustable steering column, laminated windscreen, Continental exhaust system, overdrive transmission, heater, steering lock and brake servo. Curiously, despite the cars destination, it was supplied with an mph speedometer. The Healey was later re-exported to Italy, where the following work appears to have been carried out: some front body panels replaced, including the bonnet and wings and the whole re-sprayed; radiator grille and front bumper replaced; and some switchgear and instrumentation changed or replaced. (The Smiths fuel gauge now reads Benzina, while the oil pressure and temperature gauges are calibrated in Kg/cm2 and Deg C respectively; the speedometer and rev counter are the original gold faced dials). At some point the car was also converted to right-hand drive and re-trimmed in blue leather, although when is not known.
In 1998 the car was imported from Italy into the UK and re-registered USJ 646 on 10th November that same year by the previous owners. The vendor purchased it in February 1999, since when the brakes and overdrive have been overhauled, and the brake servo, front disc rotors, engine and gearbox mountings, exhaust system, water pump and windscreen replaced. In addition, seat belts and a Motolita steering wheel have been fitted to the interior, full and half tonneau covers purchased and new tyres fitted. We are advised that the car has seen very little use since acquisition, covering approximately 2,000 dry miles only in the past eight years. MoTd and used every year, it comes with expired MoT certificates from November 1998 to the present day, BMIHT Certificate, Italian papers, assorted bills/receipts since 1999, owners and workshop manuals, current road fund licence, Swansea V5 registration document and MoT to May 2008.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
