This 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 Mk II was built in September 1962 and is said to have spent time in Alabama and Texas before being acquired out of Kansas by the seller in 2016. Refinished in white over red, the car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and an overdrive unit. Equipment includes a black soft top, Lucas driving lights, fender-mounted mirrors, 15″ wire wheels, a Mk III dashboard, roll-up windows, three-point front seatbelts, and twin carburetors. The suspension and brakes reportedly were rebuilt under current ownership, and the wheels, tires, exhaust, generator, fuel pump, and cooling fan have been replaced. This Austin-Healey is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, a car cover, and a Missouri title in the seller’s name.

The color was changed from black to a single-stage white under previous ownership, and the car features a black soft top, fender-mounted mirrors, driving lamps, and chrome-finished bumpers. The seller notes that touch-up paint has been applied to various chips, rust is present in the lower-left rocker panel, and body repair is evident on the right-rear quarter panel as well as the right-front fender.

The seller installed 15″ 60-spoke spline-driven wire wheels, which are mounted with 165-series Vredestein tires. A spare is located in the trunk. Other work performed under current ownership is said to have included replacing the brake rotors as well as rebuilding the brake calipers, front suspension, kingpins, and shocks. The chassis was lubricated in fall 2021.

The interior features front bucket seats and contoured rear seats with red upholstery and color-coordinated trim. The red carpeting has been replaced, and three-point seatbelts are installed. The seller notes that the electrical system has been converted to negative ground, and the seals for the windshield and the trunk have been replaced.

A banjo-style steering wheel sits ahead of a burl-wood Mk III–style dashboard that was installed under previous ownership. Smiths instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 11k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.

The 2.9-liter 29F inline-six is equipped with twin SU carburetors as well as a polished-aluminum valve cover and a finned aluminum oil pan. The seller converted the previously installed alternator back to a generator and the electronic ignition back to a points system. An electric SU fuel pump has been installed along with a six-blade cooling fan, and the exhaust has also been replaced. The most recent oil change was performed in fall 2021.

The serial number on the identification placard attached to the engine block matches what is recorded on the BMIHT certificate.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an overdrive unit, both of which are said to have been rebuilt in 2013. The seller notes corrosion on the underside of the vehicle.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory color scheme, equipment, build and dispatch dates, and delivery to North America.

The title notes that the vehicle is “exempt from mileage requirements.”

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
