This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 Mk II was dispatched to SH Arnolt Inc of Chicago, Illinois, in October 1962, and in 2005 the car is said to have been imported from Illinois to Western Canada, where it was refurbished prior to 2009. The seller purchased the car in 2018 and brought it back to the United States. Finished in red with a tan soft top over tan upholstery, the car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Features include 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, dual SU carburetors, an auxiliary electric cooling fan, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and a top boot. This Healey is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s handbook, records from prior ownership, and a Michigan title in the seller’s name that lists the car’s model year as 1964.

Finished from the factory in Ivory White, the car was repainted in red during the aforementioned refurbishment. The tan soft top has been replaced, and other equipment includes a black top boot, a hood scoop, bullet-style side mirrors, bright trim, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders.

Chrome-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with Michelin ZX radial tires measuring 175R15. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.

Originally fitted with red upholstery, the 2+2 cabin was redone in tan during the refurbishment. Interior appointments include front seatbelts, a wood shift knob, a cabin heater, and a passenger-side grab handle.

The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 73k miles, approximately 400 of which were added under current ownership. The fuel gauge does not work.

The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD6 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 136 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. An auxiliary electric cooling fan and a stainless-steel exhaust system have been added. The seller states that the carburetors were tuned and the oil was changed in August 2023.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors, options, and serial numbers along with dispatch to Chicago on October 26, 1962.

The Michigan title describes the vehicle as a 1964 Austin-Healey convertible.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
