Private Party or Dealer: Dealer
This 1964 Austin-Healey 3000 was purchased on November 24, 1965 at Penny Motors of Dayton, Ohio by a Mr. Moore and remained in his possession until 2016. Its 2.9-liter inline-six is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The car was acquired by the selling dealer in 2017, and subsequent work included installing new wheel cylinders, brake shoes, fuse box, and voltage regulator. This BJ7 Series II is now offered with records beginning in 2003, original sales paperwork, a factory manual, and a clean Ohio title.
The exterior was reportedly refinished in British Racing Green under previous ownership. Equipment includes a fender-mounted driver’s-side mirror, chrome bumpers without overriders, and a black boot cover. The canvas soft top is reportedly original to the car and has not been fully raised by the seller. Being a later 1964 BJ7, the windows lower and raise.
Replacement 60-spoke chrome wire wheels are equipped with two-eared spinners and older Michelin tires. New wheel cylinders and brake shoes were reportedly installed in 2018.
Black upholstery is contrasted with white seat piping and chrome-rimmed Smiths gauges. A new 3-spoke banjo-style steering wheel was installed in 2016, and less than 47k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer. The adjustable steering column is said to not lock properly.
The 2.9L inline-six features dual SU carburetors and electronic ignition and is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. An oil change and brake fluid service were performed last year, and a new fuse box, battery, voltage regulator, and ignition coil were installed in 2017.
The seller describes minor engine oil leaks from the rear main seal, minor gear oil from the transmission output shafts, a rear differential that is moist, as well as minor surface corrosion on the chassis. The seller reports that the corrosion on the frame rails is not structural in nature.
A copy of the original sales invoice from November 1965 shows a total sale price of $2,308.05 and no optional features.
