1964 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000, Austin Healey 3000 Mk II BJ7 - The best driver! Reluctant sale of a cherished car. This car was nut-and-bolt restored by a capable amateur in 1996, and has done approx 20,000 miles since. It is not a concours trailer queen, but you can be proud to take it to any car show. It has won several first-in-class at regional British car shows. It's best feature, though, is how it drives - no rattles, tight steering and suspension, engine balanced and stronger than new. and a Smitty's 5-speed conversion w/ syncromesh 1st and overdrive 5th. The original transmission is still with the car, and works but is tired. The bumpers are also with the car, and have been deep-chrome plated like the rest of the bright work. Paint is excellent, with virtually no boo-boos The custom tan leather interior has developed some real patina, but there are no tears, etc. There is a Moto-Lita steering wheel, and a custom-turned cherry-burl shift knob. The canvas top still keeps out the rain (mostly, but then they never did better than that, did they) but is now fairly tatty in appearance and probably wants to be replaced. A "Healey Garage" comes with the car - like a car cover but just covers the cockpit - much easier to carry along and use. The muffler system is also getting near the end of it's use-by date. Other features: New Optima battery, Pertronix ignition (what an improvement), 72 spoke chrome Dayton wire wheels, Vredestein tires w/8-10,000 miles remaining. Bare frame was sandblasted, acid dipped, all rusty parts cut out and replaced. the replacement panels were fully seam welded, not just spot welded, and then all was painted with POR-15. All cavities were treated with waxoil, and the whole thing undercoated. Engine was rebuilt with all new perishable parts, line-bored, balanced , and head ported and polished. Original body panels were repaired, not replaced. Door shut-lines are not great, but there's no sag. Headlight circuits have been fused (one of the most notorious sources of fire in the original cars). Gas tank replaced, the new one being interior coated. The original SU fuel pump is still in place, but the actual job is being done by a modern electronic pump. New trunk liners. Space-age heat blanket beneath carpets to keep toes from becoming crispy critters. There are probably other improvements i have forgotten. My asking price is reasonable, and reflects the #2 condition of the car, #1's now bringing over $50,000, and sure to keep rising.
