This 1964 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 Mk II is a 2+2 convertible that was acquired by the seller in 1965 in Pittsburgh. The car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six that was rebuilt approximately 25 years ago and which is linked to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Following the rebuild the car was placed in long-term storage, and the car disassembled and refurbished between August 2017 and October 2018. Finished in green over tan leather upholstery, it has chrome-plated bumpers with overriders as well as 15″ wire wheels, front disc brakes, stainless-steel exhaust components, a tan soft top, a hood scoop, dual side mirrors, a Smiths heater, and a Pioneer stereo. This 3000 BJ7 is now offered at no reserve with a front-end cover and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s name.
The seller reports that the car was fully disassembled during the refurbishment before it was repainted in the current shade of green. Exterior details include a tan convertible soft top, a hood scoop, dual fender-mounted side mirrors, red 3000 Mk II badging, dual polished exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The radio antenna is disconnected and a black front-end cover is included in the sale. The antenna is broken.
Silver-finished 15” wire wheels secured by two-eared knock-offs are mounted with 165-series Monarch radial tires that were mounted approximately 20 years ago. A spare wheel with a mismatched tire is located in the trunk, and braking is provided by front discs and rear drums.
The 2+2 seating was re-trimmed in tan leather while dark tan upholstery accents the dashboard and door panels. Appointments include a Smiths heater, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, an aftermarket Pioneer stereo, front lap belts, and a passenger grab handle. Portions of the seat upholstery is loose and shows creasing.
The banjo-style steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 79k miles, approximately 70k of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six was rebuilt between 1997 and 2000 according to the seller, who notes the dual SU carburetors were installed at that time and PerTronix electronic ignition was added. Approximately 50 miles have been added since the rebuild. The car is difficult to start when cold, and the removed carburetors are included in the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an electrically actuated overdrive unit. A dual stainless-steel exhaust system has been installed. A rattle is audible in the exhaust.
