This 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 Mk II was stored in California from 1973 until the seller’s acquisition from the estate of its long-term prior owner in 2022. A subsequent refurbishment over the next two years included a repaint, a reupholstered interior, and a mechanical refresh. The car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in Colorado Red and black over red leather. Equipment includes a black soft top, painted 15″ wire wheels, servo-assisted front disc brakes, Koni shocks, a top boot, a tonneau cover, a hood scoop, a cabin heater, and front bucket seats. This 3000 Mk II is now offered at no reserve with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, the owner’s manual, service records, refurbishment photos, spare parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car came finished from the factory in Colorado Red and black and was repainted during the refurbishment, at which time rust on the bottom of both rear quarter panels was repaired using replacement metal patch panels. The windshield, body seals, and trim were also replaced, including the front and rear bumper overriders, air intake grille, fender spears, and badging. A replacement black soft top and matching boot were also installed. The seller notes pitting on the chrome and blemishes in the paint.
The painted 15″ wire wheels wheels are mounted with Michelin XZX tires measuring 165/SR15. Braking is handled by servo-assisted front discs and rear drums. The leaf springs were re-arched, and the brake servo, master cylinder, rear wheel cylinders, and lines were replaced during the refurbishment along with the sway bar links. Koni tube shock adaptors were installed under prior ownership.
The two-plus-two cabin features seats that were re-padded and re-trimmed in red leather with black piping while the armrest and dash pad were re-covered in vinyl. Replacement Moss Motors carpeting was fitted on the floors, and the heater control panel, knobs, gearshift boot and knob, and rearview mirror were also replaced. Lap belts were added for the front occupants.
The banjo-style steering wheel is mounted on an adjustable steering column and frames Smiths white-dial instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HS6 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 136 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. An electric fuel pump was installed and the radiator recored during the refurbishment. Additional work involved replacing the following components:
Freeze plugs
Water pump
Thermostat
Battery
Distributor cap and rotor
Ignition wires
Drive belts
Intake and exhaust manifold gaskets
Valve cover gasket
Carburetor gaskets
Air cleaner
Fuel filter
Fuel and heater hoses
Heater control valve
Hood insulation
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock-de Normanville electric overdrive. There is rust and damage along the bottom of the front frame cross-member.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate lists the factory colors, equipment, and serial numbers along with a build date in August 1963.
