According to its accompanying British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, chassis H-BJ8/41728 was built on 24th-25th May 1967 and despatched to Lookers Limited of Warrington, Cheshire five days later. The original green log book lists six former keepers and shows that the Austin-Healey has always been based in the North West. Acquired by the vendor's late husband (its eighth keeper) on 4th September 2005, the 3000 MKIII Phase 2 was entrusted to marque specialist Merlin Classic Cars Ltd of High Peak just over a decade later for an extensive body off, bare metal restoration.
Only completed last year the refurbishment encompassed the following:
Whole chassis and body sandblasted to bare metal
Rotisseries metalwork carried out on chassis, new floors, inner and outer sills, new B-posts, all rot replaced in rear inner and front wheel arches
Spray zinc primed chassis and bulkheads followed by stone chipping underneath the chassis and wheel arches then Colorado Red paintwork throughout
All other body panels properly prepared underside and outer then sprayed Colorado Red
Fully overhauled front and rear suspension including the fitting of all new bushes. All new oil seals including diff oil seal
Fully serviced and painted engine
Rejuvenated gearbox and overdrive
Fully overhauled SU carburettors, fitted and tuned
All new brake system including new flexible brake hoses
All new braided wiring loom and switches, lights etc
New battery and battery cut-off switch
All new Red leather trim and new carpets fitted throughout
New Mota-Lita steering wheel and boss
New wooden dashboard
Fully restored instruments
Fully detailed engine bay
New chrome wire wheels and fresh tyres
Sandblasted and powder coated hood frame with new Mohair hood and hood bag made and fitted by a well-known coach trimmer which fits extremely well and looks superb
