This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was owned for decades by a resident of Tacoma, Washington, and it was purchased by the seller’s grandfather in 2011 and subsequently was refurbished in Portland, Oregon, by 2015. Finished in blue and white over blue upholstery, the car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Features include a black soft top, a blue tonneau cover, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, dual SU carburetors, a wood dashboard, a clock, and a banjo-style steering wheel. This 3000 is now offered by the seller on behalf of his grandfather with records dating back to the 1960s, a car cover, and an Oregon title in the seller’s grandfather’s name.
The car was repainted in Healey Blue and white during the aforementioned refurbishment, the seller tells us. The folding black convertible top has been replaced, and other equipment includes a blue tonneau cover, a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
Silver-painted 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with Nexen SB-802 tires measuring 165/80. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats that have been retrimmed in blue upholstery. Interior appointments include wood dashboard panels, a cabin heater, a locking glovebox, front lap belts, blue carpeting, and rubber floor mats. A quartz clock is stationed at the base of the dash-mounted rearview mirror.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 23k miles, less than 1k of which were added under current ownership; true mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive.
Ownership and service documents dating back to the 1960s will accompany the vehicle.
The car’s chassis number is HBJ8L25595, whereas the Oregon title cites only the final five digits: 25595.
