This 1964 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was purchased from its original owner by the seller in 1983. The car was repainted in 2000, and other refurbishment work was conducted in 2008. The green-over-black car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Features include dual SU carburetors, PerTronix electronic ignition, a high-torque starter, a black soft top, a top boot, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a banjo-style steering wheel, a wood dashboard, and a heater. This 3000 Mk III is now offered with partial service records, a car cover, and an Oregon title in the seller’s name.
The car was stripped to bare metal and repainted in British Racing Green lacquer in 2000, according to the seller. The black soft top was replaced in 2008, and other equipment includes a black top boot, a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
Chrome-finished 15″ 72-spoke knock-off wire wheels are mounted with Michelin XZX tires measuring 165SR15; the wheels and tires were replaced in 2008, as were the brakes, shocks, and springs, the seller tells us. The brake master cylinder was replaced in preparation for the sale.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in Black Ambla vinyl. The wood dashboard was replaced in 2008 along with the banjo-style steering wheel, the black carpeting, and the front seatbelts. The seller notes that the roll-up windows do not operate smoothly.
Smiths black-dial instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 99,900 miles, approximately 30k of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. PerTronix electronic ignition and a Flame-Thrower coil were installed in 2018. A high-torque starter was fitted in 2022, and the battery was replaced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The seller states that the electric overdrive unit operates intermittently. The shifter was repaired and the clutch slave cylinder replaced in 2022.
The car’s chassis number is HBJ8L25831, whereas the Oregon title omits the first section, showing only the “25831” portion.
