This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the current owner in 2007 and subsequently underwent a body-off refurbishment. The project involved a repaint in black with burgundy side scallops and an interior re-trim in cinnamon vinyl from John Skinner Ltd. as well as installation of a replacement frame from Jule Enterprises. Power is supplied by a 2.9-liter inline-six fitted with dual SU carburetors, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission linked with a 28%-reduction overdrive unit. The car rides on 15″ wire wheels and is further equipped with Lucas driving lights, a black soft top, 2+2 seating, and wood interior trim along with a retrofitted digital media receiver and cruise control system. This 3000 Mk III is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with an Ohio title.
The car was repainted in black with burgundy side scallops and red pinstriping as part of the aforementioned refurbishment project completed in 2008. It wears a black soft top and top boot and is accompanied by a removable tonneau cover. Further details include a hood scoop, a badge bar, Lucas driving lights, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The seller notes various paint chips around the car.
The repainted body was installed atop a powdercoated frame from Jule Enterprises as part of the build finished in 2008. The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-ear knock-offs and mounted with a mixed set of Kumho and Dunlop tires, while braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in cinnamon vinyl with brown piping sourced from John Skinner Ltd. of Gloucester, England, and wood trim accents the steering wheel, shift knob, dash, and doors. A digital media receiver and cruise control system have been retrofitted, and further appointments include a heater, a locking glovebox, and quarter vent windows.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames black-dial Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 39k miles. The supplied title lists a 45k-mile reading in 1999, and the current owner has reportedly added approximately 60k miles since acquiring the car in 2007. True mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an electrically actuated overdrive unit that is said to provide a 28% gear reduction. The seller notes rust on the right floor pan.
