This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is finished in Ivory White over black vinyl upholstery and powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with electronic overdrive. Equipment includes a black soft top and top boot, refurbished dual carburetors, a Pertronix ignition, wire wheels, a burl walnut dashboard, and a Retro Sound AM/FM radio with an auxiliary input. The car was sold new by Standard Motor Co, in Lincoln, Nebraska, and was acquired by the seller in 2020. This BJ8 is offered with manufacturer’s literature, a jack and knock-off hammer, removed factory parts, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, and Rhode Island registration in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Ivory White and was reportedly refinished under previous ownership. Additional equipment includes a replacement black soft top, a black top boot, headlight guards, dual fender-mounted mirrors, a rear luggage rack, chrome bumpers with overriders, and twin exhaust tips. Blemishes are present on the rocker panels and rear bumper chrome.
Silver-finished 15″ wire wheels feature winged knockoffs and are fitted with 165/80 Classic Radial LL800 tires. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. The rear springs and brake lines are said to have been replaced.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in Black Ambla vinyl with gold piping joined by a matching dash pad, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include a heater, burl walnut dashboard, an adjustable steering column, front lap belts, and a Retro Sound AM/FM radio with an auxiliary input. The carpet and dash pad are said to have been replaced, and sound deadener was applied on the floor pans. A removed factory radio is included in the sale.
The banjo-style steering wheel wears an aftermarket wrap and frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 54k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six is fed by dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 150 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. A 2021 service included refurbishment of the carburetors and installation of a Pertronix electronic ignition. The engine is said to have been fitted with a high-output oil pump, a spin-on oil filter, a high-torque starter, and an electric fuel pump. Removed factory ignition parts are included in the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with electronic overdrive. The floor pans and fuel tank are said to have been replaced under previous ownership.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate lists original colors, powertrain numbers, and delivery to Houston, Texas.
The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for a vehicle of its age. It is being sold on its registration.
