This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was refurbished in the early 2000s and was acquired by the seller in 2002. The car is powered by a replacement 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in Healey Blue over black Ambla vinyl. Features include a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a top boot, a hood scoop, a cabin heater, and front bucket seats. This 3000 Mk III is now offered with service records, a car cover, tuning tools, a set of jack stands, refurbishment photos, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Healey Blue (BU2) and was repainted during the aforementioned refurbishment, at which time body repairs were performed, floor panels were replaced, and rust on the frame was cut out and replacement metal welded in. A black soft top and boot are fitted. The seller notes a touched-up scratch on the right front wing, a chip in the windshield, and a blemish on the front grille.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 165R15 Widetrack Radial Metric tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The brakes, steering system, and suspension were refreshed in 2002. The brake booster was replaced in 2020.
The 2+2 bucket seats were reupholstered in black Ambla vinyl during the refurbishment, and interior appointments include a cabin heater, three-point front seatbelts, a locking glovebox, and wood trim. The right turn signal indicator is cracked. The gear shift boot was replaced in preparation for the sale.
The banjo-style steering wheel wears a lace-up cover and frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 60k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.
The replacement 2.9-liter inline-six was reportedly sourced from a 1967 BJ8 and rebuilt in 2002. The electrical system has been converted to negative ground, and an alternator, Pertronix electronic ignition, and a spin-on oil filter have been added. The wiring harness has been replaced per the seller. The alternator was serviced in 2025.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The transmission and rear axle are also said to have been sourced from the 1967 BJ8, and the transmission was rebuilt in 2002. A replacement overdrive relay was installed in 2020.
The seller has provided a description of the refurbishment process, and photos captured during the refurbishment are provided.
