This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III underwent a repaint in Healey Blue and an interior re-trim in blue vinyl as part of a refurbishment completed prior to the seller’s acquisition in 2023. The car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six equipped with dual SU carburetors that is linked with a four-speed manual transmission and an electric overdrive unit. It features a Bell stainless-steel exhaust system and wears a blue soft top along with 15″ knock-off wire wheels, while the interior has 2+2 seating along with a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel and wood dashboard trim. This 3000 Mk III is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, service records, spare parts, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Healey Blue (BU2) and was reportedly stripped to bare metal and repainted as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. The seller tells us that there are a few creases in the rear window of the replacement blue soft top and reports paint dings around the body. Further details include a hood scoop, fender-mounted mirrors, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-ear knock-offs and mounted with 165-width Widetrack radial tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The re-trimmed 2+2 cabin features bucket seats upholstered in blue vinyl with patterned inserts and contrasting binding. Interior appointments include a cabin heater, a locking glovebox, and wood dashboard trim.
The Moto-Lita steering wheel features a wood rim and frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 88k miles, approximately 125 of which were added under current ownership.
A painted spare 15″ wire wheel and tire are stored in the trunk along with a wood knock-off wrench.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. An aftermarket electronic ignition has been added and the factory steel vacuum hose has been bypassed with a rubber unit. The seller recommends tuning the carburetors.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. A Bell stainless-steel exhaust system has been added.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate indicates that the car was built in September 1965 and lists factory serial numbers, colors, and equipment.
A collection of vehicle literature, records, parts, and other accessories will also accompany the car.
