This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was exported to a dealership in Kenosha, Wisconsin in October 1965 and is now finished in British Racing Green with a tan top over tan upholstery. Power comes from a 3.0L inline-six paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Factory-installed options included wire wheels, overdrive, a heater, an adjustable steering column, a laminated windshield, and a tonneau cover. The previous owner reportedly acquired the car in 1979, and in 1990 it was sent to a shop in Virginia for a refurbishment that was completed in October 1995 and included bodywork and a redone tan interior. The current owner bought the car in November 2010 and last drove it in 2016. New tires were mounted and the coil replaced in February 2019. This Austin-Healey is now offered on behalf of the current owner in Montgomery, Alabama with records pertaining to the 1990s restoration, a BMIHT certificate, and a bill of sale.

The body was reportedly removed from the chassis during the 1990s restoration at Weiler’s Nostalgia Motors in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The British Racing Green finish is said to be in need of detail work, and pitting is present on some of the brightwork. The seller notes that the door gaps are not uniform, as shown in the photo gallery below.

A new tan softtop was fitted during the refurbishment, and a matching boot cover accompanies the sale. 15″ knock-off wire wheels were mounted with new 165/80 Nexen SB-802 tires in February 2019. The rear-mounted spare assembly is missing.

Inside, new tan upholstery and carpeting were installed during the 1990s restoration, although the car was originally constructed with a black interior. The shift boot is now worn.

The interior features a wood dashboard, a banjo-style 3-spoke steering wheel, and Smiths instrumentation. The 5-digit odometer indicates just over 63,500 miles, although true mileage is unknown.

A twin-carbureted 3.0L inline-six delivers power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual gearbox with factory overdrive. The seller states that the clutch slips in 3rd and 4th gears. A new coil was fitted in February 2019.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate states that this Healey was built in October 1965 finished in British Racing Green with a black top and upholstery. The car was dispatched to Wisconsin that same month. Factory options are also listed along with chassis, engine, and body numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
