This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was purchased new by the seller’s uncle and acquired by the seller in 1982. The car is finished in British Racing Green over black vinyl upholstery and is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Additional equipment includes 15″ wire wheels, front disc brakes, a black soft top, chrome bumpers with overriders, wood veneer interior trim, a cabin heater, a push-button AM radio, and dual SU carburetors. Work in 2015 included an overhaul of the brakes and the replacement of the vacuum system components, the ignition condenser, and the spark plugs. This BJ8 is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s handbook, a workshop manual, service records, a tonneau cover, spare parts and keys, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in British Racing Green and features a black soft top. Additional exterior details include a hood scoop, vent windows, dual side-view mirror, a luggage rack, and chrome bumpers with overriders. A black top boot and tonneau cover will accompany the car. The seller notes discolored paint on the hood and around the rear wheel arches.
Chrome 15″ wire wheels with knock-off hubs are mounted with 165-series Michelin XZX tires. Stopping power is provided by front discs and rear drums, and the braking system is said to have been overhauled in 2015 by replacing the brake master cylinder, the front calipers and rotors, and the rear brake cylinders and shoes.
The 2+2 cabin features low-back front bucket seats and rear jump seats that are upholstered in black vinyl. Additional equipment includes burl wood dash panels, a heater, front lap belts, Austin-Healey-branded front rubber floor mats, and a push-button AM radio. The driver’s door panel upholstery is ripped, the wood dash trim has cracks, and the carpets are torn.
The banjo-style steering wheel is mounted on an adjustable column ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplementary gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 62k miles, approximately 13k of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors. Work in 2015 consisted of replacing vacuum system components, the ignition condenser, and the spark plugs.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Rust is visible on various underside components.
A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s handbook, a workshop manual, service records, and spare parts and keys are included in the sale.
