This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was built on March 17, 1966 and is finished in red over a black interior. Power is supplied by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and equipment includes a black soft top, 2+2 seating, 15″ chrome knock-off wire wheels, and an AM/FM radio. The car spent time in Tennessee before being acquired by the selling dealer in 2021. Work in 2019 consisted of a tune-up, front brake service, and replacement of the front shocks, water pump, radiator, and engine mounts. This 3000 BJ8 is now offered with a tonneau cover, service records, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Washington title.
The car was finished from the factory in Colorado Red and was reportedly repainted some time during previous ownership. Features include a black soft top, chrome bumpers with overriders, vent windows, and a dual-exit exhaust. A tonneau cover is included in the sale, along with a matching top boot that requires the snap buttons to be installed. Rust is present around the trunk lid and paint has flaked off above the passenger-side headlight.
Chrome 15″ wire wheels are equipped with two-eared knock-off spinners and mounted with Vredestein tires. A spare painted wire wheel is stored in the trunk. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. Work in 2019 included welding in a replacement rear shock tower mounting plate along with replacing the wheel bearings, front shocks, wire wheel hubs, and brake hoses, as well as the front brake rotors, pads, and calipers.
The 2+2 interior is trimmed in black with yellow piping and features burl wood dash veneers, lap belts, a wood shift knob, and a push-button AM/FM radio. A tear is noted in the driver’s seat bottom.
A banjo-style steering wheel with an aftermarket lace-up cover frames factory instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and a five-digit odometer that displays 68k miles. True mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors and was rated at 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque when new. A tune-up was performed in 2019, and the valve cover gaskets, engine mounts, and side cover gasket were replaced. A spin-on oil filter was also installed, along with a replacement water pump, radiator, and hoses.
Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The rear differential has a leak according to the selling dealer. Rust-through is noted in the frame.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory equipment, colors, serial numbers, and production dates.
