This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was built in April 1966 and dispatched to Montreal, Canada the following month. The car is finished in Healey Blue and white over a blue interior and is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six coupled with a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The seller reportedly first saw the car in the late 1970s, was unable to purchase it when it changed hands in the late 1990s, and finally acquired the vehicle two years ago. A repaint has since been performed, and additional maintenance is said to have included rebuilding the carburetors, cleaning the fuel tank, performing a tuneup, and installing a replacement soft top. This BJ8 is now offered with parts receipts dating to the 1980s, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and Quebec registration. The exterior received a two-stage repaint in Healey Blue with white side scallops in April 2018.The seller notes a crack around the corner of the hood. Wire wheels are equipped with two-eared knock-off spinners and older Michelin XZX tires.
Blue vinyl seats are complemented with gold piping, matching carpets, and burl wood trim. A wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel is mounted on an adjustable column, and a radio blanking plate is fitted in the dash. The glovebox is signed by racing driver Max Verstappen, who rode in the car during parade laps prior to the 2019 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Quebec.
Less than 78k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, approximately 1,000 of which were added by the seller, who states that the previous owner added about 500 miles over two decades and kept the car inside his house.
The numbers-matching 2.9L inline-six is linked to a four-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive. The twin SU carburetors were rebuilt by the seller, and a new fuel pump, air filters, and a spin-on oil-filter adapter were installed. A tuneup was also performed under current ownership, and the fuel tank was cleaned.
The seller notes several oil leaks, and additional photos of the underbody are provided in the gallery.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows a manufacture date in April 1966 and lists the original colors and equipment. The body, chassis, and engine numbers also are listed.
