Beautiful red over black 1966 Austin Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 with less than 100 miles since major restoration (the odometer reads 79,610). This car is from my private collection that I need to downsize. The former owner had a major restoration performed on the car just prior to selling it to me. According to him the engine and transmission/overdrive are original to the car. The car starts, runs and drives well. Below are details of specific items of the car.

Engine: The previous owner reported that the engine and transmission were rebuilt but not 100% "restored" meaning, for example, that he chose to repair the oil pan, which was dented, rather than pay $600 or so for a replacement. As a consequence the oil pan is not good cosmetically and leaks a bit around the gasket. However, all of the other external engine components are in very good cosmetic condition.

I have had the engine checked by a professional shop to determine the condition. Their report indicates good compression (140 psi tested at 4500 feet elevation - see picture of report) in all cylinders with #6 slightly lower (135 psi) than the rest. Oil pressure is in the 20-50 psi range depending on engine temperature and rpm's. There are a few very minor oil leaks when the car is running as mentioned above. The ignition system has been upgraded to a Lucas Sport coil and an Allison electronic ignition.

Transmission & Overdrive: The 4-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly and the synchros work well. The electric overdrive engages properly when switched on.

Exhaust: The exhaust system is new.

Brakes and Suspension: The brakes and suspension are in very good condition.

Electrical/Gauges: New 12 volt battery with disconnect switch. New wiring harnesses throughout. All lights work properly and their lenses are in good condition. All of the gauges and switches work properly and their faces and chrome bezels are in very good condition.

Body and Finish: The paint is in very good condition with two or three very small paint blemishes on the hood and fender as shown in picture. Some of these are very small paint touchups that could be improved with a good color sand and buffing. The sheet metal has no rust. All visible original painted areas on the inside of the body panels are red - so red looks to be the original color of the car.

Some body panels and the frame were previously undercoated. This undercoating has been stripped and the metal painted chassis black, except for the underside of trunk floor which was not aggressively stripped prior to painting to avoid damaging the sheet metal.

Chrome Glass: Good chrome all around except light spotting on the rear bumper. Good glass all around.

Frame and Chassis: Very good condition with no rust. The tell-tale 3 punched holes in each engine mount tower are perfectly round and show none of the distortion that occurs from a front end collision. There is no other evidence of the car ever having been in a collosion.

During the restoration, a previously-applied undercoat was removed and the frame re-painted in chassis black. There are 2 dimples in the undersides of the left and right frame members just behind the front wheel wells. The dimples appear to have been caused by a floor jack.

Wheels and Tires: 72-spoke chrome wire wheels with 165/80R15 radial tires in like new condition.

Interior: Like new black carpet and black vinyl seat upholstry with correct "chrome" herringbone piping. The dash board is the original walnut burl with some crazing in the laquer but not the wood itself that gives the dash a pleasing vintage look. Steering wheel is in very good condition and looks to be original with a very nice leather wrap.

Convertible Top and Tonneau Cover: The convertible top and frame are like new. An original tonneau cover in average condition is included.

Spare Tire and Tools: The spare tire is in like new condition mounted on a 72-spoke chrome wire wheel. Brass-faced knock-off hammer is included with the car. No jack is included.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
