This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the seller in December 1983 as a non-running project, with a subsequent refurbishment including a repaint in Healey Blue and Old English White as well as mechanical work. Power is from a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, and the car has been modified with 72-spoke wire wheels, an AM/FM transistor radio, a negative-ground electrical conversion, and a Cooper S brake servo. Service in 2019 included replacement of the tires and fuel filter as well as fluid changes and a timing adjustment. This BJ8 is offered in Canada with records dating back to 1986 and transferable Alberta registration in the seller’s name.

Originally British Racing Green, the body was reportedly torn down in the 1970s under previous ownership for sandblasting of the frame and bulkhead, replacement of the door sills, and refurbishment of the rear quarter panels. The car then sat idle for five years before being acquired by the seller, who had the fenders, shrouds, bonnet, and boot lid sanded prior to a repaint in Healey Blue with Old English White lower surfaces.

Chrome 72-spoke knock-off wire wheels wear 15″ Vredestein Sprint Classic tires that were installed in October 2019 according to the seller. The brake and clutch hydraulic fluid was also changed.

The cockpit features front and rear bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl with perforated inserts and white piping. An AM/FM transistor radio is mounted in the dash, and the electrical system has been converted to use a negative ground.

A banjo-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer is said to indicate 81k miles, approximately 12k of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2.9-liter inline-six was reportedly overhauled 12k miles ago in 1984, and is paired with a four-speed manual transmission that features an overdrive unit and is said to have been fitted with a new layshaft, bearings, and synchronizers during the same time period. Induction is via dual SU HD8 carburetors.

Service in October 2019 included replacement of the fuel filter, changing the coolant and transmission fluid, adjusting the idle, and a timing check.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows a January 1967 build date and lists the original colors, equipment, and powertrain numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
