Lot #108002

This 1959 Austin-Healey 3000 BN7 Mk I is said to have resided in Pennsylvania since new, and work under previous ownership included repainting the body in green as well as retrimming the interior in tan. Powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, the car is equipped with dual SU carburetors, knock-off 15″ wire wheels, front disc brakes, a hood scoop, a wooden shift knob, a passenger-side grab handle, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror. The car was acquired by the selling dealer in April 2023, and subsequent work reportedly included replacing the tires, rear wheels, and exhaust tailpipe. This 3000 BN7 is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate and a Pennsylvania title.

The car left the factory finished in black and was repainted green under previous ownership. Exterior features include a hood scoop, General Electric headlights, and chrome-finished bumpers with front overriders.

Knock-off 15″ wire wheels are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires showing 2022 date codes, and the two rear wheels were reportedly replaced under current ownership. Stopping power is provided by front disc brakes and rear drums.

Originally upholstered in red, the cabin was retrimmed in tan under previous ownership and features a wooden shift knob, a passenger-side grab handle, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror. The cabin heater and climate controls have been removed.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, a fuel level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows just under 20k miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2.9-liter is said to have been overhauled under previous ownership and is equipped with dual SU carburetors. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an electrically actuated overdrive unit that operates in either third or fourth gear. The selling dealer states that the tailpipe was replaced following their acquisition of the vehicle.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers as well as initial delivery to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania title lists “Antique” under the brands section.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
