This 1959 Austin-Healey is a Mark I 3000 that was acquired by the seller in 1982 and is finished in silver with light metallic blue coves over a black leather interior. This 2-seater example was built in August 1959 and delivered new through the Port of Vancouver, British Columbia. Power comes from the numbers-matching 2.9 inline-six, which is paired with a rebuilt 4-speed manual gearbox with an electric overdrive. The seller has added approximately 8k miles over the last 36 years, and a set of 72-spoke chrome wire wheels have been added along with a stainless exhaust and tail pipes. The last major service included a new SU fuel pump, distributor rebuild, and an oil change. This Big Healey is now being offered with a soft top, tonneau cover, documentation, spares, and a clear Alberta title in the seller's name.
It is one of 2,825 produced in 1959 and one of just 10 believed to have been sold new in Canada. This example has never received a full restoration, though the seller has performed cosmetic refurbishment over the years. In 1983, the body was refinished in silver with light blue metallic coves. Metal replacement prior to the repaint included a new cabin floor, running boards, trunk floor, and a trunk lid. The car has been garage-kept, though a few chips and rust bubbles have accumulated over the years, most noticeably on the hood, which the seller attributes to engine heat. A few dents and distortion are also visible on the front and rear aprons.
Includes side curtains, tonneau, and accessory wind wings. A powder coated black grille comes fitted, though the original chrome unit accompanies the sale. Conical rear reflectors have also been installed in place of the original flat units.
Chrome 72-spoke wire wheels wear Michelin XZX rubber, and Mark 1 3000s received Girling front disc brakes from the factory. Evidence of prior accident damage on the passenger-side front corner is reportedly evident. Replacement springs are fitted at all four corners, and the front suspension has also been rebuilt.
The 2-seat cabin comes equipped with an optional heater, adjustable steering column, and wood-rim steering wheel, though the original banjo-style wheel is included. Replacement carpet and leather upholstery have been installed during the seller's ownership, and the inner door releases are currently disconnected. 22k miles are shown on the odometer, which is believed to have rolled over once.
The original 2.9-liter inline-six is equipped with a stainless exhaust and tailpipe, 5-blade cooling fan, as well as a rebuilt distributor and generator. Induction is through a pair of rebuilt SU carburetors, and a new points-type fuel pump, also from SU, was installed in 2010. Power is delivered to the solid rear end through the rebuilt original manual gearbox and overdrive.
Replacement black carpet has been installed in the trunk, where an unused silver painted spare resides. The electrical system is positive earth, and new battery leads and replacement remote cut-off switch have been added by the seller.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust confirms the original colors, options, and engine number. An image of the matching engine number (29D RUH 3801), along with close-ups of the chassis (HBNL/03420) and the body (3026BN7/3327) numbers. Records and receipts have been retained by the seller from his 36 years of ownership, as well as a few documents from the previous owner dating back to 1972.
The included spares package contains various new and original parts.
