This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 is a four-seat roadster which was acquired by the seller 38 years ago, reportedly from its second owner, and was given a body-off restoration in 1998 by Wicker’s Body & Paint Shop in Kendallville, Indiana. Power comes from a 3.0-liter inline-six featuring three SU HS4 carburetors and mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with an electrically-actuated Laycock overdrive. The engine was rebuilt several years before the 1998 cosmetic work, which included refinishing in Guards Red and white paint over a beige interior. Modifications include a Pertronix electronic ignition system, an alternator conversion, chrome 72-spoke wire wheels, a CB radio, and more. Oil and transmission fluid changes were carried out in spring 2019 according to the seller. This BT7 is offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, hard and soft tops, side curtains, a tonneau cover, records, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

The car was repainted in Guards Red with white coves during the refurbishment while features consist of fender-mounted mirrors, Lucas fog lamps, a stainless steel badge bar, and a luggage rack.

Chrome 15″ 72-spoke wire wheels wear tubeless Vredestein tires which were reportedly installed approximately 1,000 miles ago. A full tonneau cover matching the ivory-colored soft top accompanies the car along with side curtains.

Originally trimmed in red, the 2+2 cabin has been reupholstered in beige with matching carpets accented by chrome cockpit trim and a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel. Equipment includes a heater, an adjustable steering column, a CB radio with antenna, a 12-volt charging port, and more.

White Smiths gauges include a five-digit odometer said to have displayed approximately 78k miles prior to the refurbishment, at which time the it was reset to zero. The seller has since reportedly added just under 48k miles.

The 3.0-liter C-Series inline-six was reportedly overhauled by Engine by Terry with a .010″ overbore and hardened valve seats in the mid-1990s. Features include triple SU HS4 carburetors, a PerTronix electronic ignition system, an alternator conversion, and more. The four-speed manual gearbox is mated to an electrically-actuated Laycock overdrive.

The seller notes the existence of a minor oil leak.

According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, the car was dispatched to Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 13, 1961. The original colors and options are also listed along with the chassis and drivetrain numbers. A reproduction chassis tag is mounted in the engine bay.

Car show plaques and other awards are included in the sale along with an owner’s manual and records according to the seller.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
