This car was sold new in Fort Worth, Texas, so it was supplied from the factory as a left-hand drive car. The wooden-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel sits proudly in front of the dashboard. Bold, clear instrumentation keeps the driver informed of the car’s condition and progress, while the passenger is provided controls for the heater and a grab handle, if required.
Sizeable storage pockets in the door cards allow handy storage and their leather trim matches the seats. These are piped in red to add a dash of flair, and the upholstery remains generally very good. There is a little light creasing to the leather, from use, but we couldn’t see any significant damage.
Black carpets match the seats and are clean and tidy, they are neatly trimmed in black and don’t look worn or damaged. To the rear, the boot is fully carpeted and features the battery and kill switch.
The Exterior
Beautiful red paintwork
Matching red hood and tonneau cover
Chrome wire wheels
The unmistakable shape of a Healey 3000 is a sight to behold as it prowls the streets. And this particular example is resplendent in red over black livery with a red hood, too. The body panels all look to be in good condition, with no significant damage we could see, and the paintwork exhibits a deep colour and a smart finish.
With its long bonnet and sweeping lines, this car has a powerful road presence, which is enhanced by its beautiful chrome wire wheels and matching chrome bumpers. The plating all looks to be in very smart condition and the lamp lenses are clear and bright.
The bright red hood raises and lowers without issue and appears to be free from damage. It fits well and is supplemented by a matching tonneau cover to protect the interior when not in use.
Underneath, this Austin-Healey is presented in extremely clean condition, with only a few flecks of road dirt to be found. The bodywork appears to be in excellent condition and the running gear is also very clean and tidy.
The Mechanics
Three-litre straight-six engine
Overdrive gearbox
Recently extensively overhauled
At its heart, the Austin-Healey 3000 is unashamedly designed as a high-performance sports car. Its six-cylinder engine is smooth and powerful, and it plants its power skilfully.
This car has been the subject of a recent mechanical overhaul, which included a full oil and filter service, servicing the gearbox and overdrive unit, overhauling the brakes and much more. There are extensive invoices on file for this work in 2022, as well as a major overhaul carried out in 2017.
Under the bonnet, the engine bay is very clean and tidy, with its three S.U. carburettors neatly lined up to one side. The suspension and running gear look very tidy, with rubber bushes and gaiters which appear to have been fitted relatively recently. The vendor informs us that the car’s heating system is yet to be installed.
