This 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 was refurbished in Texas between 2011 and 2019 and was acquired by the seller after being listed on BaT in April 2022. The car is finished in metallic blue and white over blue leather upholstery, and power comes from a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Additional equipment includes a blue soft top, dual SU carburetors, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, a chrome luggage rack, and 15″ knock-off wire wheels. This BT7 is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, records, and a clean Kentucky title listing the car as a 1961 Austin.

The car was finished from the factory in Healey Blue and white and was repainted by Ornduff Hot Rods of Tomball, Texas during the refurbishment following rust repairs on the frame, door panels, and fenders. Frame stiffeners were added at that time, and a replacement blue soft top and tonneau cover were installed in 2021. The prior aftermarket antenna was removed and the mounting hole filled since the car was last on BaT in 2022, as well as finishing blemishes around the driver-side fender mirror and behind the passenger door.

Silver-finished 15″ wire spoke wheels with two-eared knock-offs are mounted with Sprint Classic tires. The brake master cylinder and front pads were replaced in 2023, at which time the rear drums were turned. The seller notes a missing spoke from one of the wheels.

The 2+2 cockpit features seating upholstered in blue leather which is accompanied by a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Amenities include a heater, a parcel shelf under the passenger side of the dashboard, and blue pile carpeting with Austin-branded rubber heel mats.

A wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 62k miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2.9-liter inline-six was reportedly overhauled in 2012 by G & G Performance Engines of Tomball, Texas. The dual SU carburetors were rebuilt in 2021.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with electrically actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive that can be engaged in third and fourth gears via a dash switch. The gearbox reportedly grinds on downshifts from third to second. The seller states the overdrive unit was repaired in 2023.

The BMIHT certificate indicates that the car was completed on July 14th, 1960 for the North American market, and it shows factory colors and equipment.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
