This 1961 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 is a four-seat roadster finished in two-tone red and white, and it reportedly was purchased by the seller in 2015 from its previous owner of 35 years. Power is provided by a numbers-matching 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual gearbox equipped with overdrive. The car has been repainted, and maintenance performed by the seller is said to have included updates to the ignition and cooling systems as well as an oil service. This BT7 is now offered with a tonneau cover, side curtains, a driver’s handbook, a British Leyland Heritage Limited certificate, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.
This car was delivered new finished in an Ivory White and black duotone scheme, and it was repainted its current shade of white and red during prior ownership. Brightwork includes exterior trim, sideview mirrors mounted to the doors, and front and rear bumpers with overriders.
Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels secured with two-eared knock-off hubs wear 165/80 Nexen SB-802 tires bearing 2014 date codes. A matching spare is located in the trunk. The black soft top is shown fitted above, and a tonneau cover as well as side curtains with sliding windows are included in the sale.
The black interior features leather-upholstered front bucket and individual rear seats with white piping. A Smiths heater resides under the dash, and other equipment includes an adjustable steering column and lap belts for the front occupants.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts chrome-ringed Smiths gauges including a 120-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. Nearly 37k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, approximately 1,500 of which have been added by the seller; true mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and produced approximately 130 horsepower when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission equipped with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. Work in April 2015 included a tune-up, inspection, electrical system servicing, and replacement of the water pump and the thermostat, according to the seller. The car was last serviced with an oil change in 2018.
Stamping 29D RU H19449 is shown on the engine above and matches the number listed on the British Leyland Heritage Limited certificate.
The British Leyland Heritage Limited certificate was issued in 1981 and indicates that the car was dispatched to the United States on July 22, 1960. The certificate also lists factory colors, serial numbers, and equipment.
