Seen on eBay, May 2007. Ad reads:

"Please read the entire description before bidding. Up for auction at NO RESERVE is a historically early 1962 Austin Healey 3000 Mk.II BT-7 Roadster for restoration. Bearing VIN# HBT7L/13758 places this vehicle in the first batch of cars (batch 3065) to leave the Austin factory with triple carbs and the Mk.II model designation (13751 was the first Mk.II produced). According to the world-wide tri-carb registry database, this vehicle is the second oldest known Mk.II roadster to currently exist!!! (#13753 being the only other known car earlier than this one.) This vehicle represents a unique oppurtunity to own a piece of Austin Healey 3000 tri-carb history! Please read the following for a complete and accurate description.

BODY: As seen by the photos, extensive bodywork is needed on most all of the car. The doors are good and solid, with minor bubbling just starting on the passenger bottom edge. The bottoms of all fenders need repair. Outer rockers are rusty. There is some thick filler in some areas. Aluminum shrouds are saveable, but need some welding and straightening.

CHASSIS: Good, solid straight mainrails front to back with good transmission "cross-x". Surface rust on most of underside. Decent door to fender gapping with no chassis sag. Front crossmember needs to be replaced. Good, solid outriggers with slight rust just starting at the outer tips of the right hand rear and left hand front. Typical Healey rust in usual areas. Original inner rockers look average with some rust through. Floors are scaley with some rust-through in places.

MECHANICS: Correct long block installed with correct early sideshift 4-speed O/D gearbox. Engine is stuck, with some brazing repair to water jacket area. Correct driveshaft, axle, steering, front suspension, etc. Missing front brake disc and calipers. Steering box is tight to turn. Missing carb setup, etc.

TRIM: Vehicle has complete windshield assembly with broken glass. Has dashboard facia only with some chrome. Some underdash items(photo). Missing rest of it and needs all else.

This car is sold on a bill of sale, with all correct and original I.D. tags, etc. Overall, this restorable Big Healey (#13758) presents an oppurtunity to own the second oldest surviving Mk.II model!! An important piece of tri-carb history, this unrepeatable chance to own such a car offers good investment potential in this rapidly rising Austin Healey 3000 market. Good luck bidding."

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
