1962 Austin-Healey 3000 MKII BT7 Convertible
Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale WITHOUT RESERVE and SOLD to the highest bidder sale January 14th - 18th, 2015 at Russo and Steele's 15th Annual Scottsdale Arizona Auction. Please contact us for more information.
This 1962 Austin Healey BT 7 MkII tri-carb has been part of an owner & restorer's private collection for the past two plus decades. The owner is only the third since new. The owner of this car did a frame off restoration. All mechanical components of this BT 7 were checked and all components needing restoration were completed. The engine, transmission, overdrive, drive shaft, brakes, fuel pump, and clutch have been thoroughly restored. All fluid lines were replaced with stainless steel to ensure long operation of the various systems. The vehicle is in excellent operating condition. The vehicle was Judged at Conclave to Concours standards and received its first Concours Gold in 1994. For the following 19 years the vehicle was shown occasionally and then stored in a climate controlled environment. In 2012 another restoration was started on the vehicle. Rubber items, chrome components, electroplated items, fuel pump, and carpeting were given a restoration with the intent of showing the car in another Concours judging. In June of 2013 the vehicle was again judged Concours Gold where it still retains that status through 2015.
The vehicle has a very thorough history starting with the original owner and original purchase paperwork. The vehicle was delivered to its first owner on September 15, 1962 in the state of Rhode Island. The second owner from Maryland sold the vehicle to its current owner in Ohio November 29, 1993 where it has resided since.
The car is presented for sale with only original or equivalent components and the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate. This vehicle has matching numbers that can be verified to the British Heritage Motor Trust certificate for the engine, transmission, and rear end. The intent of all the restorations was to return and keep the vehicle in a factory original state. The vehicle has five painted wire wheels with Dunlop Road Speed bias ply tires which was how the vehicle was originally delivered. The mileage shown on the odometer is believed to be original at 36,320 miles. The boot contains the correct jack with handle and correct securing strap, tommy bar, spanner wrench, correct like new copper mallet, tool bag , spare tire with correct leather strap, and a new Lucas tar top battery. There is a toneau cover with original support bar and original leather bag containing the restored side curtains. The original owner's manual is also part of the complete paperwork with this vehicle.
This 1962 Austin Healey BT7 Mark II tri-carb is an excellently opportunity to own an automobile restored to and maintained with quality originality as the guide.
ps. The owner has an original restored hardtop for this vehicle. Please contact the current owner for details.

This Austin-Healey 3000 was completed on 26 March 1962 and was destined for North America. The car was originally finished in Ivory White over a red interior with a black convertible top and included wire wheels, heater, adjustable steering column, “roadspeed” tires, laminated windscreen, mph speedometer, and overdrive. The Mark II was shipped to the U.S. on 13 April and distributed to Hambro Automotive Corporation, USA. The Austin-Healey was sold by The Auto Show dealership to Richard Huntwork of Warwick, Rhode Island, on 15 September.
It is noted that Mr. Huntwork traded in a 1960 Volkswagen as part of the purchase. Mr. Huntwork, who worked for Bradford Special Chemical Products in West Warwick, Rhode Island, owned the car until at least 1968, with previous registrations included on file. While subsequent ownership history is not known, the car was later acquired by Robert Workman, under whose ownership the car achieved a Silver-level certification in 1994 and later a Gold-level certification in 2013 through the Austin-Healey Concours Registry. In 2015 the car changed hands to its most recent owner.
More recently, in January of 2020, the car was driven approximately 750 miles from Phoenix, Arizona, to San Francisco, California. Following the trip, the Austin-Healey benefitted from a service at a noted sports car shop in Novato, California. Work included the rebuilding of the original style electric fuel pump, and the replacement of the jet assemblies on all three carburetors. Additionally, the car received a tune up which included a new ignition coil, condenser, and solid core spark plug wires.
Today the car presents beautifully, refinished in a wonderful shade of blue with a blue convertible top. The interior is finished in blue with white piping. The leather-wrapped dash houses Smiths instrumentation along with controls for the choke, heater, and overdrive. Protection from the elements is provided by a blue convertible top and sliding side windows. A tonneau cover provides alternate weather protection. The engine bay is nicely detailed, and this Austin-Healey retains its original straight six-cylinder engine which features the desirable triple-carburetor setup. The BMIHT certificate confirms this is a numbers-matching example, including the chassis, engine, gearbox, and body. In addition to retaining its original purchase documents and early registrations, the Austin-Healey is accompanied by a Mk II brochure, BMC maintenance book, and Hambro Automotive Corporation brochure.
