Ebay item 8/14/07

Current bid $21,000, no reserve, no bids yet, 5 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
This is a very strong-running, mechanically excellent, driver's car. We have owned this big Healey for 20 years. It has been garaged and well-maintained for that time in Palm Beach County.

It is in fine original condition. All functions on this Healey are in full working order. Overdrive, third- and fourth-gears, turn signals, brake lights, windscreen wipers are fully operative.

A veteran Healey restorer has remarked that this is one of the nicest-running and smoothest- shifting big Healey roadsters he has driven. Transmission is excellent; all synchros and overdrive are in great operating condition.

Chrome is mostly original. One bumper has been replaced with a modern reproduction. As we know, the repro chrome is not the same quality as original. This car retains the original chrome, even though some has moderate pitting.

The body panels are solid and original, with the exception of rust in bottom of the doors. (This has been present all the time we have owned the car and has not been a significant cosmetic issue.) Rust in the bottom of the trunk has been repaired.

The interior, tonneau cover and the snap-on convertible top were custom made for this car in the late '70s by then-Palm Beach Auto Upholstery. All are of excellent quality. The interior is not the historically correct leather; it is high quality vinyl. See pictures.

All of the wire wheels have some slight surface rust, but are in straight and true condition. There is a spare, with a little rust, as seen in photo. Tyres are in excellent condition.

It has all the loose parts, such as the removable side curtains, folding frame for the convertible top, tyre-chaning tool kit ("custom roadside assistance programme"). Included is a hardcover owner's manual.

Note the photo of the driver's seat floor panel, which is representative of the car.

$3,000 has been spent this year for a complete zero-houring of the hydraulic, braking and fuel systems. The voltage regulator and spark plug wires are new as well. As apparent from photos, the engine bay needs to be detailed.

We have made several paint-ding repairs, purposely blended a shade darker to allow for expected fading.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
