This 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mk I is finished in blue over light blue leather and vinyl upholstery and is powered by a replacement 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car was reportedly refinished under previous ownership, and subsequent refurbishment during current ownership included installing the replacement engine and reconditioning the twin SU carburetors, as well as replacement carpets and dashboard upholstery. Additional equipment includes Dayton knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a hardtop, a removable soft top and side curtains, a hood scoop, chrome bumpers, and a heater. This BT7 was acquired by the seller in 2022 and is now offered with a tonneau cover, refurbishment photos, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.

Factory-finished in red and black, the body was repainted in blue under previous ownership, which is said to have been done following repairs to the doors and rear quarter panels and replacement of the trunk floor. Equipment includes fender-mounted side mirrors, a hood scoop, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The sale includes a removable soft top and side curtains, a tonneau cover, and a hardtop, which is in need of refinishing. Corrosion can be seen on the inside of the driver’s door, and the seller notes the windshield and chrome trim are pitted.

Chrome-finished Dayton 70-spoke 15” wire wheels wear two-ear knock-off spinners and are mounted with 185/70 Yokohama A-321VR tires with 2005 production date codes. A spare fitted with a Michelin MXV4 tire is stored in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes.

The four-place cockpit features front bucket seats upholstered in blue leather along with matching vinyl-trimmed rear seats and door panels. Replacement blue carpeting and a reupholstered dashboard panel have been fitted under current ownership. Further amenities include latch-and-link lap belts for the front occupants as well as a center armrest, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and a heater.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths gauges consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, a fuel gauge, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 17k miles, approximately 500 of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 2.9-liter inline-six is said to feature a fast-road camshaft and a lightweight flywheel, and it was installed by Ax And Allies Automotive of North Washington, Colorado, in 2022. Further work performed at this time included reconditioning of the twin 1.75 HD6 SU carburetors, installing a Bell Stainless Steel exhaust pipe and muffler, and replacing the water pump, thermostat, and hoses. The seller notes the car is fitted with a Moss Motors Texas Cooler fan, Crane XR700 electronic ignition, and an air horn, and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.

The four-speed manual transmission is equipped with electronically-engaged overdrive that operates in either third or fourth gear. A Borg & Beck clutch assembly is said to have been installed. The seller notes that second gear has difficulty engaging, and the gearbox has an oil leak.

Photos of the replacement engine prior to installation and the previous owner’s refurbishment of the car along with maintenance manuals are included in the sale.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the car was completed for the US market on February 9-16, 1960, and shows factory colors and equipment.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
