Car at auction 10/21
www.carandclassic.co.uk/auctions/1959-austin-healey-1006-4wB93n
Auction description:
1959 Austin Healey 100/6
Colour Ivory White
Odometer 36,686 Miles
Engine size 2639
Town Steenwijk, Netherlands
• Detailed and documented restoration
• Matching numbers, late model car
• Low mileage
Benefiting from a full restoration in its past this original, late model 100-6 was fitted with a number of factory options from new including overdrive, spoked wheels, heater, a layered windscreen and radial tyres.
It is a true two-seater version minus the optional rear seats and has covered just over 36,000 miles which is nothing for the big six-cylinder motor.
The Paperwork
A rich history file is included with the car containing receipts, invoices and a complete photo report of the restoration. As previously stated the car comes with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.
The Interior
Having covered a mere 36,000 miles in its lifetime the inside of this 100-6 is unsurprisingly unworn. The entirely maroon red interior complements the exterior beautifully and looks brand new with the two bucket seats showing no signs of any real wear. The cockpit is free from any indication of water ingress and the carpets and over mats are clean.
The dashboard is not cracked or weathered and all of the smiths gauges, along with the switches, are present and in good condition. The car has an additional, period Halda Tripmaster odometer fitted to the dashboard. The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel is in great condition and completes the look of this stunning interior.
The Exterior
From what we can see the car is entirely rust-free, including the usual problem areas such as the wheel arches and sills. The body panels all line up and those sleek, sweeping lines are still just as beautiful today as 1959. All of the chrome presents equally well, as do the factory wire wheels.
The fruits of the restoration work are still evident and the Ivory White paintwork retains its lustre and shine. The windscreen shows no damage and the car comes complete with spare wheel, side windows, tonneau cover and roof – all of which are in excellent condition.
The Mechanics
The in-line six-cylinder engine is incredibly clean, as is the area under the bonnet in which it is nestled and the twin SU carburettors look to be in fine shape. None of the ancillaries appear to have degraded at all and there is no evidence of any fluid leaks, either from the engine or drivetrain.
The gearbox is smooth and positive and the all-important overdrive works as it should. The twin, up-swept exhaust appears to be unimpaired and the straight-six, C-Series engine is renowned for it's glorious sound.
