Current Bid: $5,500 Ends In: 2 days

Auction description:
This 1959 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 is a non-running project that was purchased by the seller as a restoration project less than one year ago. Believed to have been last used by a Penn State student in the 1970’s, the car has been off the road for many years and is now worn with body corrosion and a seized engine. The 2.9 liter inline 6-cylinder is coupled to a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive which are believed to be original to the car. This BT7 is now offered at no reserve with an aftermarket hard top, side curtains, a tonneau cover, and a clean Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name.

The exterior is finished in an older white re-paint and the body shows signs of previous body work. The seller reports no evidence of serious accident damage, but the left rear fender is dented as seen above, and corrosion can be seen on the lower doors, fenders, and trunk lid. No convertible top or frame is provided, and the car is fitted with an aftermarket hard top with factory side curtains. Wire wheels are fitted with older tires that will need to be replaced.

The interior is finished with black vinyl upholstery with grey industrial carpeting. Splits, fading and age-related wear are present throughout. Chrome speaker grills are mounted to the rear seat panel and features include an adjustable steering column and gold face gauges. 94K miles are shown but the true mileage is unknown.

The 2.9 liter inline -six is equipped dual SU carburetors and is coupled to a 4-speed manual transmission that features a Laycock de Normanville overdrive. All mechanical components appear to be present but the seller reports that the engine is seized from prolonged storage and little is known of the history. No service records are available.

Corrosion is visible on much of the underside and the oil pan is dented. The seller is a British car restorer of over 40 years and believes the car to be a very solid project. Photos of the chassis and floor pan.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
