This 1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 roadster was built in January 1955, and the current owner purchased the car out of Sebastopol, California, as a stalled refurbishment project in 2015. The refurbishment was completed in 2024 and involved repainting the car in Spruce Green, reupholstering the black leather interior, and rebuilding the 2.7-liter inline-four and the three-speed manual transmission, which is augmented by an overdrive unit. Equipment includes 100M-spec dual SU carburetors, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, bumper corner bars, a banjo-style steering wheel, lap belts, and a tonneau cover. This BN1 is now offered on dealer consignment with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate and a clean California title.
Finished from the factory in Spruce Green, the car was repainted under current ownership, the seller tells us. Vertical bars are fitted at the corners of the car in lieu of bumpers, and other equipment includes an adjustable windshield, bright trim, and a single exhaust outlet. The vehicle comes with a black tonneau cover but lacks a soft top. The seller notes that the hood has been patched, and paint imperfections are visible.
Silver-painted 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Braking is handled by drums at each corner. The braking system has been replaced, and the master cylinder was rebuilt in mid-2025.
The bucket seats are trimmed in black leather. Interior appointments include a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a passenger-side grab handle, lap belts, and door-panel pockets.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames rebuilt Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 1k miles, which is said to reflect the distance accumulated under current ownership; true mileage is unknown.
The trunk compartment contains a custom wood-framed divider.
The 2.7-liter inline-four was rebuilt under prior ownership around 2005 and was fitted with a replacement wiring harness. 100M-specification dual SU carburetors are installed, according to the seller.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The prior owner is said to have rebuilt the transmission and replaced the clutch.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows factory equipment and indicates that the car was completed on January 26, 1955, in left-hand-drive North American specification and dispatched to the United States.
