This 1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 roadster is believed to have been delivered new to its original US owner through the distributor AFIVA in Paris, France, and driven around the country for a period of time before being shipped to the US. Chassis BN1-L/227211 was acquired by the seller from the original owner in 2020 and subsequently underwent a multi-year refurbishment that was completed in 2026. Work involved a repaint in black and red, an interior re-trim in red leather, a rebuild of the 2.7-liter inline-four, a drivetrain overhaul, and more as detailed below. The car rides on 15″ knock-off wire wheels and wears a red soft top paired with a matching tonneau cover and side curtains. The engine is equipped with dual SU carburetors as well as a stainless-steel exhaust system, while shifting is through a three-speed manual transmission mated to an electrically actuated overdrive unit. Inside, bucket seats are accompanied by a banjo-style steering wheel as well as a Smiths heater and instrumentation. This 100 is now offered with an owner’s manual, a service manual, a tool kit, BMIHT correspondence, and a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.
Email correspondence with the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT) viewable in the gallery indicates that chassis BN1-L/227211 was invoiced on September 25, 1955, and dispatched new to the distributor AFIVA in Paris. A framed photo of the car on the road near Mt. Saint Michel in France was provided to the seller by the original owner and is said to have been taken a few weeks after delivery.
The car was disassembled and underwent a repaint, an interior re-trim, an engine rebuild, and a drivetrain overhaul as part of the aforementioned refurbishment completed from 2020 to 2026.
The car is finished in black and red and accompanied by a removable red soft top, tonneau cover, and side curtains. Further details include an adjustable windshield as well as chrome bumpers with overriders.
The chrome 48-spoke wire wheels measure 15″ in diameter and are secured by two-ear knock-offs. They are mounted with 165-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires and coupled with drum brakes at each corner. A matching spare is stored in the trunk.
The bucket seats are trimmed in red leather with black piping and accompanied by a color-coordinated center arm rest, door panels, and carpets. Further interior appointments include a Smiths heater, a dash-mounted mirror, a passenger-side grab handle, and door pockets.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer was reset upon completion of the refurbishment project and now shows 28 miles.
Factory-rated at 90 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque, the 2.7-liter inline-four breathes through dual SU carburetors and is fitted with a stainless-steel exhaust system.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission mated to an electrically actuated overdrive unit.
An owner’s handbook, service manual, tool kit, and jack are included in the sale.
The body number tag is missing from the firewall.
