This 1956 Austin-Healey 100 BN2 roadster is said to have remained in storage for over five decades before being acquired by the seller in 2023. Subsequent recommissioning work involved rebuilding the dual SU carburetors, boiling the radiator, servicing the electrical system, adding a stainless-steel exhaust system, re-trimming the low-back bucket seats in blue leather, and more as detailed below. The car wears an older blue repaint and is fitted with a removable black vinyl soft top as well as yellow-lens auxiliary lights. Power is provided by a 2.7-liter inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Additional equipment includes 15″ knock-off wire wheels over drum brakes at all four corners as well as a Bluetooth-capable stereo and a Smiths heater. This 100 is now offered with removable side curtains and sun visors, a digital British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a New Hampshire title in the seller’s name listing it as a 1955 example.
The car wears faded and worn blue paint and is fitted with a removable black vinyl soft top. The seller tells us that the car is believed to have been repainted in the 1960s and notes evidence that rust repair has been performed near the rocker panels as well as behind the doors. The windscreen was replaced under their ownership, and further details include yellow-lens auxiliary lights, a single fender-mounted mirror, and bumpers with overriders. The fender badges are installed backwards.
The 15″ wire wheels and brake drums were media-blasted and painted silver by the seller. The wheels are secured by two-ear knock-offs and mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, the latter of which were fitted under current ownership. The seller tells us that the brake primary cylinder has been replaced along with the wheel cylinders and brake pads. The brake drums have been refinished in silver.
The bucket seats were fitted with replacement foam and re-trimmed in blue leather upholstery with contrasting piping following the car’s removal from storage. Additional work involved installing sound-deadening material along with a blue carpet kit and a Bluetooth-capable stereo. Further interior appointments include a Smiths heater, a dash-mounted mirror, and door pockets.
A banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. Bosch auxiliary gauges have been added to the right of the instrument panel along with an ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 57k miles, fewer than 1k of which were added under current ownership. The seller notes that the Smiths temperate gauge does not read above 160 degrees.
The car is powered by a 2.7-liter inline-four that was equipped from the factory with dual SU carburetors. The seller tells us that work performed after the car was removed from storage involved the following:
Rebuilding the carburetors
Boiling the radiator
Installing a PerTronix Flamethrower ignition and 12-volt alternator
Replacing the alternator, water pump, coolant hoses, and accessory belts
Refurbishing the fuel tank and starter
Adding a stainless-steel exhaust system
The electrical system is said to have been retrofitted to utilize two 12-volt batteries run in parallel.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
A set of removable side curtains with a blue vinyl storage bag is included in the sale along with two tinted sun visors.
The digital British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate indicates a build date of April 5, 1956, an initial destination of Dusseldorf, Germany, and factory colors and options.
The current New Hampshire title carries an “Antique Vehicle” brand.
