This 1956 Austin-Healey 100 BN2 roadster was ordered new by an officer of the United States Army stationed near Düsseldorf, Germany. The car was refurbished in the U.S. in 1999, and further refurbishment work was performed by Canepa Design of Scotts Valley, California, around 2011, after which the selling dealer mediated the vehicle’s transfer to an owner from whom the seller reacquired it in autumn 2025. Finished in white over red upholstery with white piping, the car is powered by a 2.7-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Features include a removable black soft top and side curtains, a red tonneau cover, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, driving lights, a banjo-style steering wheel, dual SU carburetors, and a Falcon stainless-steel exhaust system. The brakes and the carburetors were overhauled in preparation for the sale, and the tires and the cylinder-head gasket were replaced. This 100 is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, service records, an owner’s handbook, spare parts, and a California title.

Finished from the factory in red and black, the car was stripped to bare metal and repainted in white by Canepa Design, and the brightwork has been refurbished. The removable black soft top has been replaced, and black side curtains and a red tonneau cover will accompany the vehicle. Other equipment includes Lucas headlights and driving lights, a leather hood-retaining belt, a tilting laminated windshield, a fender-mounted driver-side mirror, and chrome bumpers with overriders.

Chrome-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 165SR15 Michelin XZX radial tires that were replaced in December 2025. Braking is handled by drums at each corner. The wheel cylinders were replaced in January 2026, the parking brake was adjusted, and the brake-light wiring was repaired.

The bucket seats have been retrimmed in red upholstery with white piping. Equipment includes red carpeting, lap belts, a heater, a passenger-side grab bar, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and door-panel pockets.

The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 900 miles, which is said to reflect the distance accumulated since 1999. About 40 miles have been added since 2011, and true mileage is unknown.

The 2,660cc inline-four was rebuilt under prior ownership, and it is augmented by dual SU carburetors and a Falcon FSAH stainless-steel exhaust system. The cylinder-head gasket was replaced in January 2026, and the carburetors also were cleaned, an in-line fuel filter was installed, the stirrup for the choke linkage was replaced, and a battery hold-down was fabricated. A January 2026 compression test revealed readings of 170 psi, 170 psi, 170 psi, and 175 psi.

The engine tag pictured above shows the sequence 1B231786M, and a corresponding number is listed on the BMIHT certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers as well as a build date of April 11, 1956, and initial delivery to Düsseldorf, Germany, with a miles-per-hour speedometer.

The California title carries a Title Only notation.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
