This 1957 Austin-Healey 100-6 BN4 roadster was acquired by the seller’s father-in-law out of San Mateo, California, in 1962 and driven home to Michigan, where it has stayed with the family since. Work over the family’s six decades of ownership is said to have included rebuilding the 2.6-liter inline-six in 1970, replacing the 15″ knock-off wire wheels in 1982, repainting the body in 1986, re-upholstering the front seats in 1999, and more as detailed below. The car is finished in Healey Blue with a body-color removable hardtop over 2+2 seating trimmed in dark blue vinyl. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission linked with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit, and the roadster is further equipped with dual SU carburetors, a BMCD AM radio, and a Smiths heater. This 100-6 is now offered by the seller with a removable blue soft top, white tonneau cover, and sliding side curtains along with an owner’s handbook, a workshop manual, service records, and a clean Michigan title in the name of their spouse.
The seller notes that the right-front fender was repaired in 1966, while damage to the left-front fender and headlight surround was fixed in 1968. The body was repainted in its current Healey Blue finish in 1986. It later underwent dent repair and further paintwork in 2013. The car is paired with a body-color removable hardtop that features an ivory headliner. A removable dark blue soft top, white tonneau cover, and sliding side curtains are included in the sale.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are said to have been replaced in 1982 and are mounted with 165/80 radial tires. The suspension and drum brakes were reportedly overhauled in 2012.
The seller notes that the front bucket seats were re-upholstered in blue vinyl with white piping in 1999, and older blue trim covers the individual rear seats and backrest in the rear of the cabin. Further appointments include a BMCD Custom AM radio, a Smiths heater, and blue front lap belts.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and now shows 3k miles. Approximately 90k miles are believed to have been added under current ownership. The seller notes play in the steering wheel.
The 2.6-liter inline-six that was equipped from the factory with dual SU carburetors and rated at 102 horsepower when new. The seller tells us that the engine was rebuilt in 1970 when the car showed approximately 79k miles.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission linked with an electrically actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. The floor pans were repaired and the car was undercoated at some point in the 1970s, according to the seller. Rust is noted on the underbody and rocker panels.
An owner’s handbook and workshop manual will accompany the car along with a knock-off hammer and a spare wheel and tire.
The current Michigan title lists the VIN as 34619.
