This 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 Mk II was shipped to Oregon in July 1962, and in 1979 it was imported to Vancouver, British Columbia, in Canada. The seller purchased the car out of long-term indoor storage in Vancouver in August 2021, and a subsequent body-off refurbishment totaling approximately $71k CAD was conducted between October 2021 and September 2025. The 2.9-liter inline-six and the four-speed manual transmission with overdrive were rebuilt during the refurbishment, as were the differential, suspension, brakes, and electrical components. The vehicle was refinished in Healey Blue and Ivory White over replacement blue leather upholstery with white piping. Features include a blue soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, dual SU carburetors, a stainless-steel Bell exhaust system, a banjo-style steering wheel, front lap belts, and blue carpeting. This 3000 Mk IIA is now offered in Canada with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment records and photos, and Ontario registration in the seller’s name.
More than three dozens pages of 2021–2026 spreadsheet entries created by the seller with a cited total investment of $70,925 CAD. Additional refurbishment photos also are presented in the gallery.
Finished from the factory in Colorado Red, the car was stripped, repaired, sandblasted, primed, and repainted in Healey Blue with Ivory White coves during the aforementioned refurbishment; the seller tells us that the front floorboards were the only panels that required replacement. The grille, bumpers, overriders, lighting bezels, windshield surround, and badges were rechromed. The folding blue soft top and the matching top boot are replacement pieces made of Everflex vinyl. Features include vertical grille bars, a hood scoop, a curved windshield, fender-mounted side mirrors, pivoting vent windows, and roll-up door windows. The seller notes a scratch on the driver-side quarter panel.
Chrome 72-spoke 15″ wire wheels sourced from Autofarm Ltd under current ownership are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires measuring 165HR15. The front and rear suspension components including idler arms, springs, and tie-rod ends were rebuilt and powdercoated in semi-gloss black; the suspension uses front and rear Armstrong shocks and rear leaf springs. The steering box was resealed. The braking system was overhauled as well, and the front and rear splined wheel hubs were replaced.
Originally black, the 2+2 cabin features bucket seats that were rebuilt and reupholstered in blue leather with white piping by Rightway Heritage Trimming of Langford, British Columbia. That same company also supplied the color-coordinated door panels, dashboard, dash pad, and carpeting. Interior appointments include a center armrest, front lap belts, a Smiths heater, a passenger-side grab handle, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and bright doorsill plates.
The switchgear was refurbished during the recent work, and the banjo-style steering wheel’s trafficator was replaced. Smiths white-dial instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 57k miles, less than 100 of which were added since completion of the refurbishment.
The 29F 2.9-liter inline-six was rebuilt with replacement pistons, camshaft, lifters, and main and rod bearings. Also, the rebuilt cylinder head, water pump, and generator were rebuilt. The radiator was recored utilizing the existing top and bottom tanks. The fuel lines were renewed, and British fasteners were zinc-coated. The wiring harness was replaced, and switches, relays, and regulators were rebuilt or replaced as needed, according to the seller. The engine is complemented by dual SU HS6 carburetors and a stainless-steel Bell Steel Fabrications exhaust system.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The transmission and the differential received replacement bearings and seals during the refurbishment. In addition, the frame and underside were sandblasted, primed, and painted body color.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory serial numbers, colors, and equipment and indicates that the car was dispatched to the United States on July 24, 1962.
The vehicle is being sold on its Ontario registration, which serves as the ownership document in Ontario, Canada. The registration bears a “TMP” notation for “temporary”.
