This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the seller’s father in the early 1980s and was given to the seller in 2023. The car is finished in Healey Blue and Ivory White over blue Ambla vinyl and is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a top boot, a tonneau cover, a luggage rack, and front bucket seats. This 3000 Mk III is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, spare parts, a car cover, and a Virginia title in the seller’s name.
The car came finished from the factory in Healey Blue and Ivory White and features a folding black soft top, a top boot, a tonneau cover, a hood scoop, a rear luggage rack, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The seller notes that the body was repaired after wood fell on the car in the garage in the late 1980s. Areas of bubbling and corrosion are shown in the gallery, and the seller notes that the windows require work to roll up properly.
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels were mounted with 165HR15 Vredestein sprint classic tires in 2022. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. A newer-style brake booster was installed in 2022 and the front sway bar was replaced in 2020.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats and rear seats trimmed in blue Ambla vinyl, and interior appointments include a locking glovebox, a Pioneer CD stereo, an analog clock mounted on the dash, and wood trim. There are cracks in the wood trim.
The banjo-style steering wheel wears an aftermarket lace-up cover and frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The speedometer was rebuilt in 2025, and the five-digit odometer shows 25k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. The carburetors were cleaned and adjusted in 2022. An oil change was performed in 2025.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The transmission and differential fluids were changed in 2022. The seller notes that the synchromesh on second and fourth gears require service.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors and a equipment along with a build date in October 1965.
The Virginia title lists “Exceeds” as a mileage brands.
