This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III underwent a rebuild of its 2.9-liter inline-six in 2003 before being acquired by the current owner in 2013 and refurbished. The mid-2010s project involved a repaint in Chevrolet Marina Blue, installation of a dark blue soft top, and completion of an interior re-trim in Mercedes-Benz-sourced blue leather. The car rides on 15″ knock-off wire wheels and has Hella driving lights, dual SU HD8 carburetors, and a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Inside, 2+2 seating is accompanied by a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a Smiths heater, and an Alpine CD stereo. This 3000 Mk III is now offered on behalf of the owner by Sierra Classic Sportscar—a BaT Local Partner—with partial service records and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

The car is said to have been painted Marina Blue—a color offered for the 1967 Chevrolet Corvette—and fitted with a replacement dark soft top and top boot in the course of the aforementioned mid-2010s refurbishment. Hella driving lights are fitted to a badge bar up front, bullet-style mirrors are affixed to the fenders, and a luggage rack is installed out back.

The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are secured with two-ear knock-offs and mounted with 185/70 Pirelli P6000 tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums that were serviced as part of the refurbishments. The brake fluid was flushed by Sierra Classic Sportscar in July 2026.

The 2+2 cabin was refreshed as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. It features bucket seats trimmed in Mercedes-Benz-sourced blue leather complemented by color-coordinated door panels and center tunnel upholstery. Further details include wood dashboard trim and replacement blue carpets as well as a Smiths heater and an Alpine CD stereo.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer is said to have indicated 99k miles upon the owner’s acquisition and has since rolled. It currently shows 36k miles.

The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. The engine was fitted with hardened valve seats as well as replacement valves, valve guides, tappets, pistons, and bearings as part of a rebuild completed under previous ownership in 2003. The car is further equipped with a retrofitted alternator as well as a Wizard Cooling aluminum radiator wearing an electric pusher fan. An oil change was performed by Sierra Classic Sportscar in July 2026.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The ring gear was changed in March 2002, and the clutch assembly was replaced in December 2020.

The reproduction chassis plate bears the sequence HBJ8L31327.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
