This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III underwent a multi-year refurbishment by Elite Vehicle Restorations of Denver, North Carolina, from 2019 to 2023 at a cost of over $94k and has since covered an indicated 2,200 miles. Work as part of the project included body and chassis repairs, a repaint in California Sage, installation of a Dark Green soft top, an interior re-trim in Biscuit leather, a rebuild of the 2.9-liter inline-six, installation of a Toyota five-speed manual transmission, and more as detailed below. The car rides on 15″ knock-off wire wheels and has servo-assisted front disc brakes as well as dual SU carburetors and a stainless-steel exhaust system. Inside, 2+2 seating is accented by wood dash trim and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. Acquired by the current owner in 2025, this 3000 Mk III is now offered by the seller on their behalf out of Bainbridge Island, Washington, with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, a driver’s handbook, refurbishment records, a car cover, and a Washington State title in the owner’s name.
The car was stripped and the body and chassis underwent rust repair before being repainted as part of the aforementioned refurbishment completed by Elite Vehicle Restorations, which also included an engine rebuild and other mechanical work. Invoices detailing the refurbishment totaling over $94k can be viewed in the gallery along with a collection of photos documenting the process.
The car is finished in California Sage and features a folding dark green soft top with a color-coordinated top boot. The windshield and exterior glass was replaced and the soft top frame was fitted with replacement wood top bows as part of the refurbishment. Further details include a hood scoop, a driver-side mirror, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-ear knock-offs and mounted with 165-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, while braking is from front discs paired with rear drums. Brake and suspension work conducted in the course of the refurbishment involved rebuilding the brake servo, replacing the brake calipers, and changing the rear leaf springs.
The 2+2 seats were re-trimmed in Biscuit leather and replacement interior trim panels and carpets were added in the course of the refurbishment. Additional work involved rewiring the car with a fabric-wound wiring kit, replacing the heater core, and fitting HushMat sound deadening material. The dash is accented by wood trim, and further details include a lockable glovebox, a dash-mounted mirror, and front lap belts.
The split-spoke steering wheel features a wood rim and frames rebuilt Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer was reset upon completion of the refurbishment and now shows 2,200 miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership.
The battery is paired with an aftermarket cutoff switch, and a spare wheel and tire are stored in the trunk.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. The engine was bored .030″ over and fitted with oversized pistons as part of a rebuild conducted as part of the refurbishment. Additional work in the course of the project involved installing rebuilt SU HD8 carburetors, a double-row timing chain, and a stainless-steel exhaust system as well as replacing the fuel tank and the water, oil, and fuel pumps. Maintenance in May 2026 included changing the spark plugs as well as performing an oil change, and a cast-aluminum oil pan was fitted in October 2026.
A Toyota W58 five-speed manual transmission was retrofitted, a 9.5″ pressure-plate was installed, and the rear axle was overhauled as part of the refurbishment.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate notes that the car was produced in November 1966 and dispatched to Charleston, South Carolina, on December 2, 1966. The document also lists production information, colors, and equipment.
