This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 is a four-seat roadster that was reportedly refurbished over the course of many years by its late owner, a mechanical engineer who acquired it in 1989. The car is finished in its original scheme of Colorado Red over red leather, and power is from a triple-carburetor 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission and Laycock overdrive. The engine was rebuilt in 1999, the paint and interior were refreshed in 2008-2009, and other work was performed to the cooling system, suspension, brakes, and other areas throughout the past 30 years. This Mk II BT7 is offered by the seller on behalf of the late owner’s widow with hard and soft tops, side curtains, a tonneau cover, receipts covering 1991-present, service manuals, literature, a BMIHT certificate, car show awards, and an Ohio title.
The car came finished in Colorado Red from the factory, and the seller notes paintwork in 2008. Records are also said to show that a new chrome rear bumper and other trim were sourced from the Little British Car Company, with additional pieces refinished by DG Custom Chrome of Cincinnati, Ohio. The seller notes bubbling at the lower door edges and scratches from removal of the included hardtop, while close-up photos show chips around the grille opening and dings on the grille itself.
The car wears medallions from several British car clubs, and a reported 5,451 triple-carburetor Mk. II BT7 cars were built, according to data compiled by the Austin Healey Club of America. Chrome knock-off 15” wire wheels are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The rear wheel hubs, front brake calipers and rotors, and front shocks are said to be replacements, and the seller notes installation of a front sway bar from Moss Motors.
New red leather seat covers were fitted over replacement cushions front and rear. Fresh dash vinyl and black carpets were also reportedly sourced from Moss Motors. A modern stereo is housed below the dash and wired to removable speakers stored on the rear seat. A banjo-style steering wheel includes a custom wood rim and hub-mounted trafficator switch, and is backed by Smiths gauges including a five-digit odometer said to show 60k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter C-Series inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was reportedly overhauled in 1999 according to documentation available to the seller. The radiator is said to have been rebuilt with a four-row core in 2017, with most other maintenance needs reportedly addressed personally by the late owner.
The side-shifted four-speed manual transmission is a replacement which was sourced in 2013 and is mated to an electrically-actuated Laycock overdrive. The underbody can be seen in a collection of lift shots, additional images from which are provided in the gallery below. The seller notes corrosion on some welded seams.
A spare wheel, jack, and battery are housed in the trunk. The seller is a family friend of the late owner and states that the car was driven to events at Lime Rock, Mid-Ohio, and Watkins Glen as well as participating in performance driving events hosted by the Ohio Valley Austin Healey Club. Decals under the trunk lid document participation in regional Healey events as recently as 2015, and awards from several shows are said to be included in the sale.
Receipts for parts and service under previous ownership are included in the sale along with Healey and Lucas service manuals, an owner’s manual, a spare parts catalog, and history of the Austin Healey 100 and 3000.
Production data, trim, and optional equipment are detailed on the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.

This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mark II four-seat roadster was dispatched in May 1961 to North America, where it was registered as a 1962 model. Chassis HBT7L/13828 is believed to have undergone a multi-year refurbishment following its acquisition by a prior owner in 1989 and was later purchased by the seller on BaT in June 2019. Work since then has involved performing a generator-to-alternator conversion, installing an aluminum radiator, replacing the water and fuel pumps, and more as detailed below. The car is finished in red over red leather upholstery and accompanied by a removable white hardtop and soft top. Power is from a 2.9L inline-six fitted with triple SU carburetors, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission coupled with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. Further equipment includes 15″ knock-off wire wheels and front disc brakes along with a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a Smiths heater. This 3000 BT7 is now offered with workshop manuals, service records, and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Colorado Red and was reportedly repainted in 2008. It is accompanied by a removable white hardtop and soft top. Further details include an oval grille, a hood scoop, fender-mounted mirrors, and bumpers with overriders. Bubbling is notes at the door edges, and scratches can be seen where the removable hardtop meets the body. A majority of the seller-provided photos were taken in 2024.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-ear knock-offs and mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, while braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. Work performed under current ownership has included replacing the rear wheel bearings and brake shoes.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats that were reupholstered in red leather with white piping under previous ownership. The dash vinyl and carpets are also said to have been replaced at that time. Equipment includes a Smiths heater, a center armrest, a dash-mounted mirror, a chrome passenger grab handle, and front lap belts. An inoperative CD stereo is retained below the dash, though the previously installed speakers out back have been removed. The seller notes that the turn signals do not work.
The banjo-style steering wheel features a wood rim and fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 62k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
A spare wheel and tire are stored out back, and the trunk lid wears decals documenting participation at various driving events.
The 2.9L C-Series inline-six featured triple SU HS4 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 136 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. Work under current ownership has involved performing a generator-to-alternator conversion as well as installing an aluminum radiator and replacing the water pump, thermostat, fuel pump, and drive belt.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was reportedly installed in 2013. The transmission is paired with an electrically actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. Evidence of frame repairs and corrosion are visible on various areas of the underbody.
